How much does a 5.0 weigh?

I'm shopping for an engine stand and I was wondering if anyone knows how much a complete 5.0 weighs? It looks like the majority of stands are rated for 750, 1000, 1250lbs capacity.

i would think between 300 and 500...fully assembled

I've got a 302 block on a 750 lbs stand right now. No problems. THe block alone weighs at most 200 lbs. When you throw in all the other stuff, your probably at around 500.

I can pick up an empty 302 or 351 block on my own, so I am guessing not much more than 150-200. Me and my roomate and pick up a full dressed longblock 351 (with iron heads) and throw it in the back of my lifted F-250, so I am guessing not more than 600 lbs. But when it comes to safty factorys bigger is better, so a hevery rated engine stand will be more sturdy

I think a full assembled 5.0L is in the mid-400's I believe

How much does a bare block weigh? 150lbs?

I considered trying to "right size" when picking out an engine stand.

Then I realized that the cost difference between the models was almost not mentionable (considering the useful life you will get out of the stand of 20-30yrs, or more). So I chose the biggest one I could get my hands on. If I need it for a diesel motor 10yrs from now, I won't have to buy another one to be safe.

when i was shopping for a stand it was about a 70$ between the 750lb stand and the 1250lb stand so i got the 1250lb stand that way i knew it could hold anything i might ever have to throw at it.

Big blocks weigh about 700lbs, Diesels weght about 900lbs, and small blocks weigh 400-500 (depending oh heads and intake, not including aluminum blocks engines).... I know this from my jeep experence, a bigger engine is better for more torque but isnt always worth the weight for a small light jeep (thats why you dont see powerstrokes or cummings in wranglers, and the SBF and SBC are so popular in them)

XJ - Plus fitment becomes a major issue in the XJ's engine bay plus tranny fitment to those blocks. Not just weight, as you know.

most any engine stand will work.......however...

some of the lighter/cheaper stands have the two points or casters in the rear and one on the front, while some of the better ones have two points/legs/casters in the front. those are a little nicer to have because theres less chance the stand will tip when rolling it around........their more stable........just my 2cents

Yep I know, I have worked on XJs with SB chevys and fords. Plus the XJ is unibody and doesnt do too well with any of those swaps. NOw the CJs, YJs, and TJ, have a frame so its easyer to do but they are short wheel base so fitment is a Mo Fo.
