This isn't exactly mustang tech, but i can't think of a better place to ask. My dad and I are looking at a 68 chevelle with a 396 that's bored .60 over. My question is, how many cubic inches do ya'll think the motor is at now? Unless i'm being a total tard, i'm almost positive that boring adds to overall size. Thanks in advance guys.

yes incresing bore size does increase displacement. you engines stroke and the cylinder bore determin the engines displacement.

you could calculate it based on adding .060 to the stock bore size of a 396 and then throw in the stroke. you basically just have to calculate the volume of the cylinder and multiply by 8.

off the top of my head I do belive a .030 over 396 is a 402 so my guess would be 408ci.

The small amount of extra displacement is no reason to over bore your block.
The only reason to bore it is to rebuild it and return it to service.
BTW a 302 bored .30 over gives you a 306.
