HOW MUCH for a gear install?

Paid $500 at a ford dealership. $100 per hour for a 5 hour job.

They charge 100$/h

Here they charge 75$/h and since I have a friend at the dealer I got charged 65$/h

I e-mailed the local Ford dealer and asked if they do it. Somebody just called me to get some clarification, and said they were working up a price for me.

I think they quoted you in case they had to reopen the rear and realingn again, meanign they have to do it a second time. I was quoted 5.6 hours to do my gears and to fix my rear brake calipers(they were jammed).

Also, be prepared to spend some money on rear ABS sensor because they might break once they take it out, there might be no way around that.

As for peace of mind, a Ford Dealership will do the same quality of work as any other shop, just that you pay prenium for a "Ford" technician. The only reason I went to Ford is because my friend pretty much owns the whole dealership

Went to a dodge dealership to put my car up on a rack today to check for problems (post is in Tech if you want to read about bad engine mounts ) and the differential specialist there told me he'd do my gear install for $75-$100 on a Saturday However I have to wait 3 weeks until he is back from vacation.

I visited a local Mustang place (Kaufmann's), and the guy there gave me a ballpark estimate of $390. The only problem is that it isn't terribly convenient, distance-wise, plus they need about a two week lead time.

But in all, I'd rather go there and know my car is with somebody who knows what the hell they are doing, at a cost way cheaper than the Ford dealer.

I paid $380 in labor (including taxes) for a complete rear end rebuild, including the limited slip. I supplied the parts myself. I thought it was a good deal; they did a perfect job though. Drives like a brand new car!

Go to a Ford dealership and go to the garage and ask around for guys that can do a gear swap. one of those guys will probably take on the project on one of their days off just to pick up some extra cash. prob. 100-250

Wow.. some of these gear install prices are rediculous. I'm very good friends with the Ford Master Tech at my local Ford Stealership and he installed my buddy's gears for $50 at the dealership using all the proper tools, never had any problems out of it.

100-200 anything more than that is too much unless it includes fluids.

only way your going to get it done that cheap is find a mechainc to do it on the side. Personally I would be skeptical about a person that charges 100 for it.

Back when I had a place to do them on the side I charged 250 not including fluids or anything.

doing them in my shop is a minium of 500

You should not be paying more than about 4-5 hrs labor for a gear install.

I paid 225 and i provided the gear oil, they guy who does it works on mustangs all day everyday so he knows what he's doing, got myself 3.90's!!!

Mine were installed by a prior Ford tech, had a good deal until some things went wrong (I forget what, but had to buy a new part) still ended up cheap as hell with fluids. Just gotta find the right deal. I have no whine, and no issues. Sure the right way to go is to get a shop to do it at premium so you are covered for any issues, but some of us don't have the money.
