how much is it worth?

I need to know how much this car is worth. I'm no longer interested in it and i need to sell it. The engine has about 20,000 miles and probobly puts out around 300 horsepower. The car itself has about 130,000 miles. it has a t-5 with a scattershield and a cable clutch, but it needs to be rebuilt. it has a 8" posi with 3.73, ive had it for a year. I've completly rewired the car with a painless wiring kit. It has and alpine sound system which is worth around 800 dollars. The seats are corbeau. It has granada disc brakes and edelbreock shocks. dual master cylinder. new steering box, power windows, alarm with keyless entry. car has very little rust, just some in the cowl and a little in the floorboard. it has bondo in the right door and in the rear where the gas cap is.

It's a tough one to sell, as you need to find a buyer who is looking for a modded car.

You can't justify a higher price than what you paid for it just because you spent a good bit of money customizing it. There will be those that will absolutly love what you have done to it. They will be the one that will give you what you want for it. And there are those who will absolutly hate what you have done to it and would give you nothing for it. The trick is to be very patient and find someone who loves what you have done to it. Then, there are two happier people when the deal is done.

He's right, the devil is in the details. No door sills or horn button. Dingey looking guage bezel. I'm thinking if it had black carpet and door panels, the seats wouldn't look so out of place. The wadded up carpet in the trunk looks tacky. The paint looks very nice, but it wasn't jambed. The lip around the trunk, where the fenders bolt to the aprons, the lower part of the cowl where it meets the lip on the firewall are all orangey looking and dull and scratched and don't match the shiney outside paint. Missing the trim around on the inside of the grille. It looks like the Exxon Valdez crashed into your nifty MSD distributor. The stripes look like they were just taped off straight and not to the dimensions of the Shelby cars. Most people don't know that the widths vary. It's done that way so that the stripes look like they don't. If you don't do this, they tend to look skinny on the roof and at the base of the windows.

Most of the stuff I described is just spending the time to wash and detail the car out. The interior stuff would cost what, $150-$200? I think the intake needs to be pulled and the leak fixed. I think if it was all clean, jambed and the stripes painted right and carried thru the jambs you might get $7k-$8k for it to the right buyer.

I'm not knocking your car, it looks really nice and a lot better than mine. But as it sits, $5,500 - $6000 sounds about right to me. It also depends on what part of the country your in as well. Here in central OK, those prices I just posted look about right.

The major oil leak on the engine loks really bad even though its a easy fi. Just replace a few things, of course clean it up, that makes a big difference and probably get near 7.5K for it???

How did you get 3.73's for a 8"??????

yeah, it used to look real clean like a year ago. that was before i stopped caring about it. theres a lot more in that engine than a nifty distributer ithink i was being conservative when i said 300 horspower. i wouldnt be caught dead in that car if it had black carpet and door panels. i know that the widths vary, but why do my stripes have to look like everyone elses(shelby). the paint in the jams are just dirty and everyone knows grant steering wheels are garbage. i gotta put the old one back on. maybe they're 3.70, they're 3.7something.
anyway i think if its not worth more than 10 i should keep it. somebody offered me ten grand in cash at a gas station once, he even showed it to me. ill give him a call, if i can find him. i just wasnt ready to sell it yet. i also think how you sell a car has a lot to do with it. My landlord is also interested in buying it for his son and this guy is loaded.
I'll spend some time cleaning it and putting the door sills back in this week and post a couple more pics afterwords. I'll fix that oil leak too.

The key is all in finding the RIGHT buyer, the person who loves everything you did to it.

I think if you put 100 hours of detailing time, 50 hours of work, and maybe $300 worth of parts you should get $7500. As it sits now I think others have said about right...$5-6K.

I would have to agree with Edbert here.
Sell it to me for 6k and give me a few weekends to apply the right make up to her and I could turn it over for about 12k to some who wants it.
Even with that Red interior.

i didnt mean to offend you with my initial guesstimate of 5,500, but i just compared it to what i paid for mine when i got it..although mine was all original...every person likes things different, like stated above, find the right person who loves every bit of it and you will get the price you want..i once had a guy tell me he would trade his ford lightning strait up for my car, me being the nieve stupid 18 year old told him no...starting to regret that decision now...

You can always stick it on Ebay with a reserve price and see what that nets you. And it might give you some indication of what it's worth to the people who like your car. The worst that can come out of that is you have a better idea of what people will pay. The best that can happen is you get what you want for it. Just take the normal precautions when selling it if you go that route.

i agree with most of what you people have said. i wouldn't sell it to someone who did not care for it like i did. my situation right now is this: I just bought a 03 acura tl type-s. theres still $14,000 on the loan. If i can pay off the loan now, i will only have to pay around 12,000. If i keep the car, will it be worth more than $2000 more in 6 years? It obviously has not gained any value in the past 5 years. But if i keep it, i will have plenty of time to fix everything on it because unlike before, i don't have to drive it everyday. How much does it cost to post a car on ebay?
