Hey guys,
im starting to look at building another engine. My stock one blew and i want to build one from scratch. I am thinking of getting a 306 DSS pro bullet short block. How much power with a blower (currently have an a-trim but will sell it for a procharger or s-trim) will a set up like this make? i want an e-cam and some afr or twisted wedge heads. since the engine is out of the car, i am thinking of getting some longtube headers along with the set up to help bump up the power slightly.

I am aiming for mid to high 10's and drive it on the street. Will a set up somewhat simlar to this do this? how much hp would it make?

thanks in advance to all that post

It really depends on how much boost you run doesnt it? I would say maybe 325rwhp n/a with afrs and a good intake an ecam...but with the blower it depends I think with around 8#s you will be looking at around 410rwhp thats my guess

A 306 daily driver can make 325/325, NA. Ur limited to 500rwhp with a stock 302 block with the boost. If u go to a SVO R or Dart block ur limited to 1000hp if u use 4340 forged crank and 4340 rods and forged aluminum pistons.

Use the AFR 185 heads, a Comp Cam XE282HR, port matched Performer ll intake, 1 3/4 " LT ceramic headers with X-pipe and Magnaflow cats and catback

dart blocks can handle more that 1000hp...you are certainly not limited to that...over on turbo mustangs there are people running and have been records of people running 1600rwhp on dart blocks...and they ahve never seen one crack (not just dart but R, A4, Dart, or Man O war)!

I hope it will do well, I plan on just getting my block bored over, and all the supporting details.

Are the Edlebrock heads anygood on a 306?

i would guess in the 500 range with 10-12 lbs of boost. it'd make for a fun street car thats for sure

will 500 HP get me into the mid to high 10's pretty easy? according to DSS's website the Pro bullet is recommended to handle 650 HP. i am happy with 500 rwhp but i am curious if that is enough to get you into the 10's.

I am plannin on running around 10 lbs of boost.

i have one buddy that has a stock motor with heads, cam, and intake running an S-trim at 18 lbs of boost. He know he is going to crack the block soon but his best time is like a 10.28. :SNSign:

My cousin has the dame combo you have, diffrent internals but forged. E cam, box stock twisted wedge heads and a s-trim at 13.9 lbs of boost made 535 rwhp running half and half, and has trapped over 125 mph in a full interior SN95 GT

How much power you can make is a function of what splits first - your wallet or your block...

I've built a pump gas NA 308 that made over 420RWHP 10.4's@ 128mph...3150lbs

With a properly built combo you should make over 500RWHP with 10psi, but I would stronly recommend a DART block or another brand race block, because it will break a stock block. If your buying new internals it make no sense not to go with a stroker assembly...atleast that is what I would push my customers to. Why leave free power on the table. The price difference between a forged 306 and a forged 331 is very little.

i guess i must stress that this care will mostly be used on the street for cruising around. It will see maybe 4-5 days of track use a year.

The cost of a new DART block with all forged internals, new heads and the whole chabang is going to cost me close to $8,000!!!! My A-trim wont work well with the 331 so throw in a nother 3 or 4 grand just for a new blower and im up past $10,000. i really dont have that much money. i can get that DSS motor (even a 331 for a few hundred dollars more) for 2,000, fully built for just over 4,000. The place is 8 miles away from my house so i can pick it up and save a couple hundred dollars in shipping. with the new blower im at 7 or 8 thousand. i am really confused on what way to do. i know the right thing to do is go the dart block, however, expensive wise, realisticly, i will never save up 12,000 for that set up!

Read my answer. It says they can handle 1000hp with forged internals. They can handle 1600hp with billet steel crank and billet steel rods, not forged.
