How much power can a 306 make

I wouldnt try and push a stock block, all it will do is cost you more in the long run, when you are either rebuilding another one waiting for it to break or finally steping up to an aftermarket block or 351. I know to many people that have already done that.
 
1600hp, anything could happen if the slightest thing goes wrong. Detonation is said to be like a hammer hitting the pistons as it comes up in terms of stress it causes. Well, with a 1000+hp motor it would be like a 20lbs sledge hammer being hoisted by a veteran lumberjack.

Keep in mind that 500rwhp with a supercharger, because the S/C takes power to make power, so in reality your making a lot more power.

I don't know about the DSS Level 10/20 blocks. How exactly is "blueprinting" going to make it stronger.
 
my friend puts down 10.0 runs with a r block 306, totally n\a(no nos or blower). it's just that he's spent a good 5K on the motor alone, and that's with us doing all the work. he put down 410hp and can run it hard all day, it just took alot of $ and alot of planning ahead on time. the stock block tho???? and boosted ???
 
I was referring to the stock block comments... we broke 2 stock block, fully prepped with under 450NA hp. Makes you think... A case of bad detonation can throw the crank around and break the block.

Spending all the money on a stock block, breaking it and building another could have bought you a DART based motor that you would not have to worry about.

I build a lot of stock block boosted combo's and I just advise everyone that they are on borrowed time with 450RWHP or more, It is never a matter of IF but WHEN..

Well, I'm kind of anticipating the block / pistons / rods going at some point, I have a vert I'm gonna put my heads on, and get some AFR 225's and run a 408 stroker with the same S-Trim.. I have seen people on turbomustang.com run a lot of power without internals, not sure how long they run that way, but they say without a different block, internals are a waste, and since I want something bigger, why bother with a 302.. a twin turbo 460 would be the way to go, but there is a lot more involved with that..
 
You think I'd be OK with like 425HP out of it? I'd be happy with that in a gutted coupe with 4.10's, the car ran an 11.60 with the A-Trim, I'd just like an extra few tenth's to get into 10's..
 
why dont you think your blower will work well with a 331? That is the perfect motor for boost applications!!!! Just build a motor yourself....you will save yourself ALOT of money....or have rick build you one
 
I am looking to the future, and a 351 based stroker with a S-Trim will yeild a lot more power than a 302 based stroker with an S-Trim and a race block.. I hear you can run close to 600 with a 69-70 351 block with little or no issues.. what do you guys think?
 
The A-trim is in fact a great blower. I love it. It can be upgraded to an S-trim as well.

the difference between the A-trim and S-trim is that the S-trim has a larger opening for air to pass through and "helical" shaped spines on the impeller. This causes the S-trim to flow slightly more air, more efficiently, than the A-trim.

However with the extra stroke of a stroker motor, the blower will need to fill the cylinders more, and i dont think the A-trim would be that "efficient" at all at doing this. This is just my thought. I would like to go with a Procharger intercooled unit.... but yes i am going to try my a-trim first to see what power i can make. (saves me $3,000 for the cost of a new supercharger!):nice:
 
get a snow performance kit to save you the cost of an intercooler. Your blower will work just fine with a 331. Thats only 25 more cubes than what you would be running. Thats only like 3 more cubes per cyl. so Im sure the blower will take it. As for getting 10s, its in the suspension and gearing, not necessarily the power. Tuned right, a car making just 400 at the wheels should easily hit 10s. And dont bother with anything over 500 at the flywheel if you want to save the motor. Sure the motor can take more but its a real risk and it wont last long. You want a big safety margin if you want things to last long. Also, consider RPM plays a large part in breaking things. Keeping the motor under 6500 rpms will help you out a lot as far as longevity goes. Stock blocks dont go very far with power adders with performance motor parts. Consider my combo; stock block with 342 stroker, box stock twisted wedge heads, X303 cam, Torker II carbed intake, 750 carb and 12 lb D-1 Procharger. Not even tuned and no custom stuff, it make 625 flywheel horses at less than 5000 rpms! I wasnt even trying. With AFR 185s and a custom cam and proper tuning so it would safely rev it would easily have made 750 fwhp.

what do you mean performer intake II?
can i make good power too with a typhoon intake (having a good port job and head port match, i alredy have it!) and the same engine?
right now i have the stock heads i'm going to get 185's soon, but i have a bit smaller cam XE274HR....
like how many RWHP's?
