How much should I expect to pay to have my back bumper repainted?

I got some scratches on my 2003 Mustang GTs bumper. I want to have it repainted. How much do you think doing that would cost? I talked to a neighbor who works at a body shop and she said the entire thing would need to be stripped down and repainted. I am trusting she knows what she is talking about since she is the shop's manager. She said she did not want to give me a cost until I could bring it by her shop but that won't be until Tuesday at the earilest.

You should get a new Cobra or V-6 rear bumper. It will be cheaper to prep and not cost much more in the long run. If you get the Cobra rear, have the body shop smooth over the embossed Cobra letters. That is what I am going to do if I do not go with the V-6 sleeper look

But the paint won't match correctly since the car's paint is a bit faded and the bumper's won't be. My way they will be able to match it exactly.

Why would it be any different in color, think about it, bumpers don't come painted, you will have to take it to the bodyshop anyway.

My friend is a body man,i use to worry about paint matching but he showed me how to blend the panels and its easy money for a good body man.

Would a 2003's paint have faded enough that a bumper painted the stock color no longer match? I had to have my '91's front bumper replaced and the obviously didn't match but it was a much older car.

Since your location is unknown, I would pay $ 200 South of the Mason-Dixon line. A bit more in the "Union" states or West Coast . HTH

I got two estimates from non-neighbor related places and one wants $379 and the other wants $474. That's a lot to remove little scratches. Should I risk going to a Maaco?

Going online and asking will get you a lot of advice, because we aren't your body shop owners, we can't tell you how much they will charge, and even if we quote from experience, it isn't going to change how much it will cost for you.

There is only one way to know how much it will cost for YOU, that is to ask for yourself.

As for little scratches, if you have ever tried to repair a small mark on your car, you will know how difficult it is to spot correct. To get it correct, especially if there are a lot of scratches, they will have to strip the paint, and if they go that route, a small scratch and a big scratch will be the same price because of the nature of what they have to do.

Good point! It should run close to $500. That's the cost in my area to repaint & fill/sand any small dents/scratches. Maaco is as good as the painter doing the work. If you don't know him...pass.Do it right the first time. A reputable shop might or should detail your car so it looks good when you pick it up.And if you don't like the work or see flaws in the paint job...Tell them you are not satisfied..please make it right. I had great paint work and crap jobs. One more thing..dealing with neighbors gets hairy...If you use them and hate the work...you're pissed at them.(just my feelings on doing business with neighbors)Good luck

I dunno if this will help but...we bought a brand new red 2005 Malibu Max. 1 week later my wife backed into another car causing scratches in the bumper. We took it to a local shop and it cost $375to have it fixed.

I own a body shop and I would charge around $250-$275 to fix your bumper cover. It depends on where the damage is, if it's in dead center on the back it can be fixed and blended and look great. If it's around on the corner or sides behind the wheel it will have to be blended up onto the quarter panel so it matches perfect and this will cause the price to be higher.
