Save the time and $$ and get lowering springs. You do NOT want to cut your springs. If you do then it is possible they won't be squared on both sides and cause all kinds of alignment and camber(?) problems.
Sorry...should have been more clear in the question...I have the FMS "C" Springs which come with the dead coils that are made to be cut off to the desired ride height(it even said to do it in the instructions), I was just wondering from those who have them, if 1 coil is about equal to 1 inch.
Thanks anyway...
calculate it for yourself.
Measure the length of the spring when compressed, and then the number of coils. Divide the # of coils by the compressed length, and you get the number or coils per inch. If you want to lose 1 inch, then you take off that many coils.
This worked perfectly for me when I cut my springs, except I was cutting off live coils, which effectivly increased the spring rate, and made the springs sit .25" higher than I calculated for. Ohhh well, it drops more than that just by filling the gas tank.
