How much to get your hood painted?

I went to a reputable body shop to get an estimate on getting my hood painted top and bottom to match my car, and to repair a scratch on the front bumper. The quote they came up with was $1100!!!!!! I could hardly believe it. Anyhow, Im holding off and going to look around some more. I know they need to blend the fenders and what not but DANG, that seems a little ridiculous.

So, I was just wondering what you were charged to get your hood painted.

I got a buddy who works at a body shop to do some stuff for me. I didnt have to pay for ANY parts, he used all the stuff at teh shop, I got it done at a Ford Dealership (afterhours of course) and it olny cost me $300 to get a big dent pulled out of the fender, repaint the bumper, and re-clearcoat the door. He told me he would do the hood for like $100. And the only way to get a scratch fixed it to repaint the area, so they would have to repaint the bumper.

Well you're no help, you cheated,

Yeah, I figured They'd have to repaint the bumper but it still seems a little ridiculous. I wish the dealer im at had a body shop, it sure would be cheaper. I could see paying like 400 or so for the hood, I dunno. I think im going to try the dealer in the next town and see what they say

That seems high to me too. Shop around some more. Ask friends for a recommendation of a good body shop. Possibly call your insurance rep too - they usually know a few of the good body shops in the area.

The dealership you work at probably has a place they "send" their cars out to .... or recommend.

Check with the service dept. & see what they have to say. (if that's the dept. you work in, I'm sure you'd already know, lol.) Maybe you can get a discount that way.

Try to find someone who does painting on the side. I found a guy that used to do it full time but then retired and now he just does a couple cars out of his home garage (actually the garage is bigger than his house). Maybe talk to some guys in a car club or a local forum.

I've searched around and found a few places that are supposed to be good. THe next step is getting the car down there when they're open and get a quote. The guy we use for our shop is ok, but i've seen some mess ups from him, lol. Thanks for the replies! Will

i was actually just at a body shop today because i'm getting a cobra r put on next week. they quoted me $450 for the hood, top and bottom. To do just the top was around 300. That includes prep and painting.

it also depends on the color. I see your's is teal. I checked into it a couple years ago at a reputable body shop and they said because of the color being like it is and metallic it would be close to $300 just for the paint and they told me that if I wanted anything else painted (spoiler, side skirts, etc) then would be the time to do it because it wouldn't cost any more.

I figured the teal metallic would be a little more expensive, but dang. That quote was getting the top and bottom painted, and the bumper fixed/painted. Also, they said they were going to have to repaint the fenders to blend it in. I know you have to blend it, but even then i've never heard of it being that expensive. Thanks, Will

I have a few, I just need to figure out how to resize them. Are you wanting pics of the hood on the car?
