Do a web search and then check with others. The above stock short block is $995 and lists everything they've done and warrantee.

Do you homework here. Ask your self a few serious question.
What are MY goals for this engine? How long do I want it to last? Are power adders in the future? All this will help decede if a quick rebuild is what you need, or do you need to build something.
Find out exactally what you get for $900, and get that in writing. $900 does not buy a lot of machine work nor does it buy a lot of new parts.
Some basic questions first.
-Why are you rebuilding?... Is it burning oil? Did you break something/blow the eng? High milage?
-What are your goals?
-What parts are included in the $900? Is it just rings and bearings?
You never know what you are getting into till you tear it apart. Whatever you plan on spending on your rebulid, DOULBLE IT and then you might be close to the actual cost. I'm not trying to talk you out of it, I'm just speaking form experience.
If it's just a basic refresh, buy a low mileage Explorer/Mountaineer engine, sell the GT40P heads and intake and recoup most of the cost. Then you'll have a decent foundation to work with, while you save to build a "good" engine, with the parts of your choice. $900 doesn't go very far when rebuilding. It might get you a hone/re-ring and some new bearings, but not much more.
