I have a head off an early 70's 200 ci 6. How much should I expect to pay to have a machine shop rebuild it ? What questions should I ask. Will it be a good fit for my 170 ?
Depends on how many miles on it and what needs to be done to make it right. If low mile may only need new seals and a lite valve job, if high mileage may need guides and valves etc and be expensive.
Yes if it is an older head from before the mid 70's when unleaded gas started, it needs hardened exhaust valve seats put in, if you plan to run it hard. The exhaust valve seat problem is not really one if the engine is driven easy.
