I was figuring my build last night. Came up with a really high number.

How much does everybody have in there motor build.

Like stroker,h/c/i, and supporting mods.

I came up with like 8grand.

depends on if you do it right or not.

You could prolly squeeze by with 5000 if you skimped on some things.

It also depends on just how far you wanna go with supporting mods. Do you wanna stop at a fuel pump or do you wanna change lines and **** too? Obviously you wouldn't have to do that unless you made some serious power.

but my point is....if you do suspension, fuel, etc...it could easily get up to 8 grand.

which parts were you looking at?

heh ... i'm not sure i want to know exactly what mine was, but i bet it was closer to 11 grand

I added up what mine was going to cost to make it the way I wanted it, came up with around 10 grand, and then sold the car.

I feel the same way. I've never added up what i have in mine, but I know its a lot. Just my shortblock cost over $5000. I did build a dart block based 331 with all forged internals and had it internally balanced though too. My H/C/I and supporting mods was probably over $3K in itself, and I'm replacing nearly all of it too.

I did it and now i've been wanting to sell the car for quite some time. I'm not even going to begin to add up what it costs to do it right.

I'm going to assume you were looking 331/347 and not a 306.

Depending on if you are willing to put the whole engine together or if you have a shop build the shortblock, longblock, etc. will change the prices.

Is that $8k in just parts and with you doing the labor? That must be a heck of a list...

The thing I try and remember as I slowly plan ahead for a solid engine platform is that, for the most part, this cost is only going to come once. I like the people here for thinking with their heads and not try to make ridiculous HP/TQ for as cheap as possible.

Beyond the cost all you have to do is maintenance and put gas in to compensate for your specific foot to floor ratio

I've been looking at DSS lately. A 331 short block can be $1,700 to $3k, and if you want to make serious power down the road and add a Dart block... well, add $2k. You have your choice of a custom cam, all sorts of great heads and intakes, gaskets, maybe new accessories while everything is apart, any powder coating, ignition, fuel, valve covers... and the list goes on and on.

I look at the higher price tags (most of the time) as preventative maintenance, cool factor, and a solid investment in having one hell of a fun machine.

Now no, I don't have $8k, nor do I have the means of achieving that much to dump into my car before this summer is long since past, but one day you'll hopefully see me posting pictures of a sweet new stroker in my engine bay and a heck of a dyno sheet.

Now that I've strayed far enough from the point of the thread... I think $8k is a pretty good middle ground number and if you have it to spare, run with it

What kinda miles are on your stock engine? Supercharger would be the way I would go if my stocker was still in descent shape. I however had 200,000 miles and enough nitrous to finally kill off my rings. Had a chance to trade a website for some engine work, and there you have it. Where I am today.

If you are going all motor the MSD is not really needed
and
You can rig up a CAI for less than 25 bux

I'd take a pass on that afpr as well since you'll need a custom tune

I mean ... I'd think you would not try and tune that kind of combo with just
fuel pressure adjustments and dizzy twisting

I have over 200,000 miles and previous owner, sprayed nitrous. So thats sorta out.

My plan was to add the S/C to my new combo... but as you probably tell. The S/C is on hold. The project cost me more than I was expecting. The new engine already finished off the rear end.
