how often do coil packs go out?

i have an 01 5-speed GT with a vortech sq trim, at the moment i have 93k miles. im not having any probs yet, but i know guys that have had issues with theirs. both of these guys have less miles than i do. my question is should i change them out anyways, or leave them in untill a problem arises?
thanks in advance for any replies. Joe:flag:

N/A 00 GT here, 94k miles. I've replaced 2 coil packs. First one failed when I tried washing the engine, and moisture got to it. Second one just recently when I hit the rev limiter on a hard launch. I just replace them as they go, since it can be quite costly to do them all at once.

mine was bringing up a code...I can't remember which it was..but when I took off the coil pack, one had black oil crud all through the one plug...put a new one on, ran like a charm...I have a 98 gt, so mine are on the packs..not on plug...if you need pics of the crud one, I can take some..just let me know..

well, like i stated, mine seems to run ok. i have noticed that it seems kinda doggy in the low revs, between 1900-2900rpm. i just figured it was because the backed off timming for the blower not having an intercooler.:notnice: hmm..i just might be a victim of bad coil packs and not even know it. how much do coil packs cost anyways? might as well replace them all. thanks again. so did any of you 99+ guys have idle probs when they went out or what? I'm trying to determine if my problem is a coil on plug problem or an ecu problem...
It will idle REALLY rough, and sound like it's missing. And sometimes the coil would only go out during idle, and would be fine once I was moving.

Hmmm... well I'm replacing the C.O.P. in question and I've got another ecu just in case... I guess I'll find out soon enough.

Thanx..

So, i have a question about COP's too... I had my plugs changed not too long ago and one of my plugs was very cruddy. Someone at the shop mentioned a COP fort that plug maybe going out soon. Stupid me, i ddnt make note of which plug was bad. Now, about 4 months later, when i rev and hold my engine at about 1500-2000 rpm and hold it, i can hear an irradic thump coming from the tailpipes. Sounds like you're tapping a bass speaker with you finger. I've been told its a misfire. I'm not thorowing any codes. Could a bad COP be doing this? IF i pull the spark plugs and check for any that are nastier than the others, could it be safe to assume to replace that COP to see if it fixes the problem?
