How reliable are Mustang's?...

Well on the whole trans thing, my 06 GT is a stick, I live and go to school right in the heart of Downtown Austin (UT) literally about a block from the capital and I wouldn't have it any other way. But I'm also 19 and this is my first manual car. So maybe its just the excitement. But after having a 67 with an AOD and this 06 I dont think I'll ever own a auto sports car again.

I drove my '94 Z28 all through high school and college and I am a "chevy guy" also. I used to enjoy racing (and beating) all the GTs that were almost nine years newer than my car. But times change aaaaand...I bought my '06 GT Premium (manual) for the same reason you are looking to buying one - because they aren't making the Camaro anymore. Long story short I just picked my car up on Monday and I LOVE it. Absolutely awesome car, super fun to drive fast. I would go w/ a manual because, while sometimes being a pain, they really enhance the driving experience. Oh yeah, so far no reliability issues... .

I went through the same thoughts as you, but in all seriousness, what else is out there in this price/performance niche that can be seen as a muscle car? Nothing. That realization, on top of a few test-drives from some dealerships, and I was sold. Go drive one, I think you'll become a permanent member on this board, just like me...

From the looks of the current concept camaro, the 400hp plus? engine is probaby gonna be more then $30K? Just a guess. And I hate to see Insurance costs on it. Also another interesting question. Being that Stangs are just stupidly popular, the crash rate is probably higher then most sport/muscle cars, hence, higher insurance rates for new owners. Is this often the case?

I'm 26, and ride in the dirt and street so I'm all about the clutch and the fun of having one still. At this point I don't see why I wouldn't go with a manual. This would be the first stick car that I would own. Sounds like too much fun to pass up

You could ask Astoria Ford about insurance, a salesman wrecked one right off the truck.LMAO I have a "so far" good driving record so full coverage wasn't that bad for me, and older than 30, but thats all the info I'm givin.

oh no no, its for my personal enjoyment Some travel is just something I'd like to do with it. Im sure if i can handle 5 or 6 hours in my plain jane chevy truck, the $27K stang has to be a little more comfy!!!

I did a roadtrip down to Columbus, OH from Hamilton, Ontario in my GT (stick shift) and it was the best 5 hour ride of my life. I come from a GM family, but I'll never go back. My next vehicle will be an F150 - and that'll just be to have something nice to drive during the long canadian winters!

As for reliability, I think they got the quirks sorted out with the 05's - and even those quirks were easily dealt with so I wouldn't let them deter you from buying the car. It's an all-out great ride in terms of comfort, reliability and fun.

Im a chevy guy myself when it comes to trucks, but chevy better do some cosmetic work to there truck if they want to keep me as a customer. Im leaning towards an f-150 like sacha right now. I only have 500 miles on my car so far but you wont be dissapointed. I cant wait t'il may 1st to take it out of hibernation. Sasha what color is your car? cant quite see by your photo, and how wide are those stripes? Im looking to get some stripes painted on this summer. thanks.

Other things relating to my next car purchase.

I drove to the Honda dealer to look over that S2000, its a sweet ride, kinda cramped. Though it is a Honda, I think its a tad over priced.

Then I drove around Kings Auto Mall here in Cincinnati and looked at Nissan's Z. Its pretty spiffy, I didn't sit in one yet but don't think I'll need to after visiting the Ford dealer and sitting my rump in a new Cop-Red (Roush) Stang. I was about to ask the kind lady for a drool bucket

Unless something else comes along, like the new camaro that can rock my socks like the stang does. I think I found my next car. I got the bug. I'm like a dog in the window when one goes by or see one on the street. I HAVE to look at it! heh.

There was a car I found on google, god help me I can't find it now. I should have saved it, but it had some plexiglass? see-through top instead of the normal roof. I saw it on a Saleen model. Any idea what it was? I REALLY liked it. I'm betting it's REALLY expensive too

in response to the insurance, it is pretty cheap on the S197 stangs. parts are cheap and ford decided to use thier head finally and make the car moe servicable than the previous years. run a google on it. there is a ton of stuff on the insurance rates of the new stangs.

Mine was reliable for the 8200 miles I had on it. It did an incredible job of protecting me when I wrecked it yesterday too. The police were amazed at how I literally walked away unharmed. The interior cabin space wasn't compromised that much, the shattering of glass presented the only danger.

Now that I've had my beauty sleep, I'll put you in your place. What qualifies you to drive a muscle car? Most little boys I know drive ricers. I owned a 1967 Chevelle convertble 350 hp.(murdered by a red light runner). I also owned and drove a 1970 Baracuda w/hemi copper in color, was forced to sell because my ex was gonna kill himself in it. I learned how not to drive from him. If you can't keep your bike on the road, how do you expect to keep a STANG on the road? My true friends call me Platinum B__ch. My best friend calls me LOUISE...as in "Thelma & Louise".LMAO :SNSign:
