Tryin to get my '66 stangs dashpad out to cut the dash for my CD player and I have all the visible screws out, metal trim that is against the windshield rubber and the vent thingy off and its still stuck on there...any ideas?
well the dashPAD is just a pain because the sun has probably melted it into the dash over the years. I remember just pushing up on the two "overhangs" until those came kind of loose, then finally pulling it up. The dash actually roughly follows the shape of the dashpad so it has to slide come out forward (toward the rear of the car) to clear the metal overhang parts on the real dash. If that makes sense.
What I'm saying...once you have those screws out, just pull.
there are 4 studs with bolts that you need to get from the under side of the dash. two are in the middle behind the vent / speaker and there are two on either end that are a bear to get to. I took out my glove box and instrument panel to do it (was taking out anyhow) unless you want to shimmy up under the dash.
oh yeah and as others have mentioned there was a lot of glue / melting and it basically came out in pieces because of it.
How loose do you ahve it or is it loose at all? All the screws removed from around the windshield?
You have to take out your guages and your glove box....then reach in there like you are reaching toward your doors, you will feel a small nut. I believe its either a 1/4" or 7/32" It may only be hand tight. There is one on the passenger side and one ont he drivers side. Take them out and you will see that there was a small clip/bracket holding the dash pad on there. Thats probably what is hanging you up.
Well..i had hopes of having it still intact to put back till I get the spare cash for a new one...but after removing it in about 15-20 pieces...I just dont see that happening...but dashpad got
