How to bypass stock amplifier?

Unplug/remove the amp and short jumper harness. Use the wires that plugged into the amp to plug into your new HU -- the connectors are the same. The amp should be located directly behind the HU in an 87. :nice:

go to the amp, i think its under the pass seat. You should be able to see the wires coming out of the amp *(a cluster of 8) check the color and then verify w/each speaker in the doors and back go one by one so you dont mix up polarity. You are going to have to run short runs to the amp location from the HU so you can splice in to the correct wires . Good luck

What????? The amp is right behind the radio.

allright...

The amp in an 87 is behind the head unit! Its the little metal box that doesn't look like an amp!

If you don't want to do any crazy wiring, or if you plan on keeping the head unit to re-install before you sell, just buy one of the harnesses from Crutchfield for like 10 bucks and call it a day. I used one of these and it worked like a charm

you can go to a best buy and buy the BBFD02B

this is the harness you need.

dont use the 2 gray plugs that plugged into the radio.

use the black and gray rectangular bypass plugs that are found in the back of teh radio cavity.

your welcome

Not if you plan on running a new head unit. The newer units by themselves push out well more than the 35 total watts that the stock amp does. most of todays units are about 35x4 or more. Basically the stock amp is...NO GOOD! :nice:
