If you see a black hole there stick your finger in it and determine if you can put fluid in there. What looks like a hole to you is where the bottom of the shift lever goes in, pour around that. You wont find much fluid in the tail housing because it's all in the transmission case, which you don't want to overfill, so that's why you need to take the fill plug off and fill to that level.
