Ok guys I made up my mind I'm gonna ditch the EFI and go carbed. What kind of fuel pump would I want to run. Anybody have a link for some kind of information? I tried a search and came up empty. I know I need a intake and carb but what else? What can I get rid off?

My plan for now:
Fuel pump???
650cfm Speed Demon
Victor Jr Intake

During the winter:
AFR 185 heads (milled)
Comp cam (something)
Full length Hooker headers.

What do you guys think of this set-up? What kind of HP numbers do think I could see? This is gonna be on a stock bottom end 302. I say 450 HP engine HP but

I'd get a Holley blue or red inline pump, sump the gas tank or remove the stock pump, and place a tube instead. Also need to work on the ignition, search for a HEI conversion or pick up a Duraspark or MSD system. You'll also need a distributer that will work with the ignition system. I went with a Duraspark setup for now with a distributor out of a 83 Econoline.

I don't think you'll get 450HP out of that, if so you'll piss off a lot of people For example: 351W stroked to 408 ci, victor jr intake, 750 cfm carb, comp cam (dont remember specs but real rough idle), Trickflow heads, roller rockers, full MSD, headers, etc... dynoed at 483HP and 535lb-ft torque.

Looks real good. I'd go with an Anderson Ford Cam though instead of a Comp grind. The N-91 would be perfect for that setup. His cams really work. As far as fuel pumps, I like the Barry Grant stuff but you'll pay more.

I am in the process of doing this very swap but in an F-150. So far it's been pretty easy but I have a question about using an electric fuel pump. Where should I install a fuel pressure regulator? Before the pump or after?

Anybody got any links? What about the ignition? I know on a carb set-up you can run alot of timing. I've heard like 36* total? But with no computer advance. Could I keep the distrubutor? So far it seems pretty straight forward.

I'm just gonna run the stock short-block for now and hopefully that will hold up. Then when that goes I'll probably go with a nicley built up 306 or 331. I getting the 185's so later on down the road I can grow.

I'll also check out that Anderson Ford cam.

check www.carbdford.com under tech articles they have a full efi to carb swap write up it was helpful with my swap. and the best place to put a fuel pressure regulator?? get like a holley blue pump whihc comes with a regulator and mount it on the passenger side strut tower on the side you can even get a fitting to mount a mechanical fuel pressure guage and mount it on your cowl and line to line into the regulator. works good

What im doing is just cutting the power to the stock efi pump, So i can use the existing pickup.
Using a holley blue pump and regulator, both mounted at tank level.
from everything I have seen, a efi pump can be pumped through if it has no power.

I'm planning on putting a 302 carb engine next year, and I heard, All I need to do is take out the fuel pump and use pipe (tube) instead.

lex you should really get a sump and weld it into your stock tank then get a good filter and pump and mount them to the rear bumper support and just run either aluiminum line and bend it since its cheaper or get the braided line and a whole bunch of fittings although the price adds up fast with all the fittings. i would get the sump meant for mustangs i have the comp engineering one and i have problems with fuel delivery under a 1/4 tank of gas my fuel pressure flucuates depending on how the car is sitting so its kind of annoying.

Go with the Holley Blue, which is what I went with, it will come with the regulator you need to adjust fuel pressure...so make sure you have some kind of gauge. I have a 91 mustang that was EFI and is now Carb. All I can say is....SMART MAN! Carb is the best way to go for money reasons, power, and so much easier to work on to pin-point problems. You need a lower intake for carb, if you're not supercharger/blower setup, you need around a 600 carb. I'd go with an edlebrock...had problems with the holley. You will have to get a new distrubitor for carb. If you have anymore questions, let me know. Good luck!

I've already got a pretty good built EFI setup, Moroso CAI, 76mm MAF, 70mm TB, Edelbrock Performer EFI manifold, 24# injectors, Kirban AFPR, Holley 255lph FP. Would I pick up more power with a carbed conversion?

OK, so what do you do with the stock EFI charging system etc...??? You just leave all that stuff, and wiring harness intact, and use it how it is [with exception to the injector harness etc??]? Then just get different distributor, intake and carb, and the fuel system, changover, then go to it? I'd think that the ECM would be doing weird things to the car if you were using the same alternator/harness etc...but just leaving the EFI part of the harness unplugged.

Carbed has crossed my mind a few times too... I mean, I have everything here for the EFI, but... what do you guys do with stock alternator and charging system etc..?

the efi harness concets to the main chassis harness in 2 plugs right by break booster simply unplug them unplug computer and pull efi harness out of car and place in closest garbage bin lol. you can get directions on carbdford.com oh how to rewire your low oil warning light to work again. everything else will work in the car. might have to rewire your factory tach if you want.the charging system is not affected by doing this conversion. youll be surprised how much the efi harness really weighs once removed.
