How to fix the "Christine" syndrome...?

Ok my car is really starting to piss me off... lately it has been staying on more and more when I pull the key out. I replaced the lock cylinder already, and that helped.
As far as I can tell, the switch or part of the lock cylinder is getting stuck in the on position. If I tap it on start it will usually loosen it up and let it turn off. If not, the fuel pump cutoff will cause the car to stop but everything will still be energized.

Is it possible to either lubricate or otherwise smooth the motion of a '70 ignition switch? Or does anyone else have any other ideas what it might by. I would rather not buy a new switch as most parts houses I've found only stock NOS peices (my wallet shakes in fear). As a last resort... what might be the way to wire in a generic switch? I plan on making a custom console and was planning on putting the 'real' ignition switch in that anyways.

Thanks
