How to get better MPG

I really need to start getting better gas milage with the current prices, i'm not complaining about them, but i have already changed my foot, and got better fuel economy, is there anything under $200 that i could do to my gt to help get better fuel economy, i currently get the same as my cousin and thats 210 miles to a tank. Would something like mid pipes help alot? all i have right now is a K&N filter and flows

Make sure your tires are properly inflated to spec. You can also remove the rear seat to save some weight.

my tires are good, and i use my rear seat too much to remove it.. honestly i think i would take it out if i had some tannaue covers.. i also have a vert. like my cousin, and i'm really suprised her 96 wiht like 30K less miles than mine get the same mpg as my 97 wiht 95K on it. both verts.

umm like what. i changed the plugs like 500 miles ago with factory replacement because thats all my local autozone had for about a week and a half. i just changed one of my rear o2 becasue it went bad, oil have to wait till i get more money in about a week and a half, but still have about 900 miles before it really needs to be changed. umm K&N put on with plugs. am i missing something? I just want better fuel economy, but some extra power when i want to have fun..

Well do you own a Mustang? Shall I guess the year and mileage or did you just want to tell us?

What plugs did you use exactly, what gap?

Use 5W-20 when you change for best mileage.

Assuming greater than 30k miles or so on the car change fuel filter, PCV, SeaFoam, clean MAF, reset PCM.

in a previous post i said i had a 97 gt vert. auto with 95K on it. i havn't though of changin the fuel filter. the plug gap is .055. i have sea foamed the car recently and also cleaned the maf when i got it, about 2 months ago, and just changing my driving i went from 165-170 a tank to 200-210.

my viper T56 with the .50 OD helped me get 3 mpg better. you should try that

You can get more miles out of it... Change the fuel filter its long overdue (supposed to change at 30k miles).

Also, reset the PCM just for the hell of it. Never hurts to make the car relearn fuel trims.

tips

Definately change your fuel filter.

Also remove your spare and jack to save weight.

Like 007 said underdrive pulleys should improve your mpg also.

ok, i will change the fuel filter. and how much are underdrive pullies? i was also thinking of in aobut a month getting an O/R pipe, will that help any?

Ohh i have never changed the fuel filter before where is if located? and are there any write ups about chaging one?

actually it kinda of made me mad, i had a 98 mustang gt manuel. with 58K on it got really freakishly good mpg even with the rear tires at about 15 psi. i could get more than 200 miles to 3/4 tank, and thats with driving it hard most of the time. One reason i hate auto, but don't have the money or the nerve to look for another gt convertible thats a standard

Save the $200 and use it to pay for gas. But if you need to spend it, as said before fuel filter, clean air filter, plugs, wires, general cleanup of all systems. Seafoam, etc.

Btw not to put salt in your wounds, I get 200 miles or so to a tank with a blower auto 01 GT.

I average 17 City & 25 HWY with my '03 Cobra. It's all in how you drive it. Keep RPM's BELOW 2000. Increase recommended tire pressures by 10% or so. If it's says 32 psi, bump it up to 35.

The biggest thing is to drive it like you're a blue-haired granny.

It's really straightforward, just crawl under the rear of your car and you'll see the filter and be able to tell how to do it. Just make sure you have a rag to soak up the gas that will leak out and make sure you don't get any in your eyes.

i get 240-260 with my 4.10's in my 04 GT, i shift at 2200-2500 most of the time... and i generally have a few 1/4 mile passes i take when i get bored...

just drive it like you have an egg on the pedal, keep the top up at anything over 35 and keep the windows up too... at highway speeds A/C is actually better to run. run hgiher air pressure, run 87 octane if you can, midpipe would help as would a catback because youll be making the engine push the exhaust out less and it will just flow out...

95k miles on it so the cats are probably shot.... so just get a OffRoad Hpipe or something... MAC seems to be a good choice for midpipes.
