I got the quadrant itself out, but the adjuster part I just can't seem to get out. There is a peice of metal attached to the firewall that blocks it. It's made of some hard plastic. Should I hit it up with an air chisel?

no. the ball on the firewall is held in by a bolt with a clip, take that bolt out, and pull the cable through the firewall (towards the engine bay) assuming you have the cable off the factory quadrant.

grab your tire iron out and pry it far enough to see the little spring. unclip the spring entirely. it is now free to come out. Believe it or not, that plate is not in the way. Using a combination of moving the clutch pedal to all different heights while prying with that tire iron will get it off.

some claim success at hack sawing off the little finger extension so it will twist around and pop off. Patience is your friend here.

Thanks, I guess I'll just have to play with it some more.

Lots of cursing.....

Seriously, broke mine off with visegrips. Tenacious little bastard would not pry off no matter WHAT I did!

I had the same exact problem trying to get that little piece off when I did my clutch job. It is a son of a b*tch to get off. It seriously took like an hour and a half to get it off.
