How to Gut a Door?

Since I've sent of the smaller pieces from my front end for sandblasting, I've moved on to the next project......repairing my passenger side door. :nice:

The first part of which entails disassembling the door down to a shell.

Looking at the door, I figure the first part that has to come out is the vent window assembly, as it is also the front track for the window.

I started by removing all of the hardware on the door, but the vent window assy won't come out, it is loose, but seems to be stuck where the upper rear bolt was. I looked and felt around for another bolt, thinking I may have missed one, but couldn't find any.......is there some trick to this, or do I just keep wiggling it back and forth until it comes free?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, 'cause I'm getting ready to use either a BFH (Big Ford Hammer) or a plasma cutter to get it out....... :bang::mad:

After being properly chastised by the sheeple herder for not RTFM-ing, I went back, read it, looked at the figures, followed the instructions, did what GP said, and.................................................................................

GOT NO WHERE! :bang:

Seriously, I tried to get the door glass out, but it gets hung up between the vent window and the back edge of the door! :nonono:

I won't be able to get to my books untill tomorrow, but IIRC when I did it I took the main window out first. After removing the scissors, you have to loosen or remove the stops. Loosen the vent assembly. Slide the main door glass assembly up and then toward the rear slightly (through the notch).

Ahhh.....Okay.....there's a couple of steps there NOT mention in the FM! I'll get back on it tomorrow....Thanx GP! :nice:

Darn it i Can't find them really quick... I'll have to look through the 1000's of pictures to find them. But the quick version is to loosen the vents, but leave them in place and remove the rear window weatherstip on the door (along with the window guides).

Then unbolt the window from the rollers then lift halfway out. slide the rear of the window (the side towards the rear of the car when the door is closed). Slowly and carefully rotate the rear of the window upwards til it's almost 90 degrees.

The the tab on the front part of the window bracket has to slide through one of the notches in the top of the door shell. As the tab reaches the notch in the door shell i believe you have to slightly rotate the window towards the interior of the door while lifting out.

Note do not try to bend the tab on the front of the window bracket, and don't try to slide out that tab through the rear window opening (like you did with the rear part of the window).

I'll still try to find the picts because they actually make sense.
