How to identify tranny?

Well the old tranny that came out of the car needs to get rebuilt as thats the tranny i would liek to use with the upcoming motot, how do i tell what kind it is????? I know its not a C6, so either FMX or C4?????

Some kind of degreaser toclean the numbers on the side of the tranny.Post them here and I will tell you and maybe find a chart to help in the future

The C4 is all aluminum, while the FMX has an iron main case, but aluminum bellhousing and extension housing.. Also, the oil pans that looks like this:

the bellhousing on the FMX is bolted on. i believe on the C4 the bellhousing/mainbody are a single casting.
