How to Install 99-04 mustang seats? WriteUp

Im only have been part of Stangnet a few months now but I have received a lot of help, so I made this to contribute. Its a very easy install, very minor mods.

Sidenotes:
a) The installation was made with the classic stock tracks. (67 coupe)
b) Im assuming the newer mustang seat design remained the same those years.

Pre-installing
Before you start installing the new seats take out the old ones and remove the springs and tracks. It has 4 bolts, one in every corner. Be careful with the springs.

Both tracks
The first problem you are going to encounter is that the stick that moves the seat forward and backwards won’t fit because it is angled. To fix this you only need to straighten the stick with a hammer, and maybe a heat gun to make it easier.

Passenger seat
When you see the base of the passenger seat you are going to notice that in the bottom of it, it has four holes, but just one with thread, what I did is the following: I bought a thread-maker? and make the thread in the first one (the one closer to the upper hole). Then I bolt one track with the seat stock bolt (I guess is 5/16, ¾ in) and use that as a template to mark the upper hole, then I drill the hole with a 5/16 bit. Since the thickness of the upper side is thinner I needed to use a nut instead of making a thread. -This process needs to be done twice, since there are 2 tracks in each seat.- Then I reattach the springs and some kind of lever? that is use to make both tracks slice at the same time and that was it.

Drivers seat
Drivers side is another story, here the base has only the required holes, not multiple holes like the other seat, AND they are at uneven heights. So when you try to fit the track you are going to have an approx 1 inch gap. To make things works do the following: Buy a bunch of flat washers (I used 15 in each hole) and glue them down carefully so every washer is align to create a straight pile. When they are ready, use one pile as a spacer and bolt one track to the upper hole (but now the length of the bolt must be 2 in), tight it and when it is in place mark the position of the lower hole, making sure the track is straight. Drill it again with a 5/16 bit, put the other pile of washers, lock it with a nut on the other side and tight it. -This process needs to be done twice, since there are 2 tracks in each seat. - Reattach everything and you are done.

Materials:
4 2in bolts (DS)
4 ¾ bolts (PS)
4 nuts (2 nuts per seat)
60 flat washers (1/4 inner circle)
Strong glue
1 thread-maker? -> You can skip this if you use nuts

Remember to take measurements so everything is straight and you don’t end with significant distances between tracks and/or holes.

The clearance between the seat bottom and the steering wheel is about 6.5 in, and steering wheel is 13 and 1/4. You do seat taller, but in my case I guess is because the stock foam in the seats was very soft and the new ones have stiffer foam.
