I finnaly pulled my tranny, and couldnt get the lid off to see how bad it was broken(and open the new one I got to see if its good). I know the lid is connected to the shifter shaft, so I tried splitting it open from the middle by removing the casing bolts. That did little, but It was enough to notice my entire Imput shaft was shaved smooth! I had an entire Palm full of metal teeth HOW DO I OPEN THE LID TO INSPECT? Please help stangnet!

See http://www.ttcautomotive.com/English/onlineorder/product.asp to download a FREE service manual for T5 or Tremec 3550
You will need the Adobe Acrobat viewer which is also a free download – http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html

Ditto that ^

you have to punch the pin out of the shifter block that retains it to the shifter rail, then the rear housing will come off. It's glued on with silicone so expect a fight.

the tailshaft stays in the transmission...

First, remove the shifter

Punch out the pin in the shift rod

Stand transmission tail end up on blocks, unbolt tailhousing, and pry it off

Set transmission back down and unbolt case cover, pry up then work shifter forks off the collars

Removing the front cover allows you to swap input shafts.

Alright, I got the pin out the my busted tranny and opened it..but I wanna be really careful with the one thats going in...lemme get this right. I put the shifter shaft in the 3-4 gear neutral position, pop the pin out, then remove the shifter block. Then comes out that spring and bearing(the guide ones). Next I put it up in the air? Which end? Tail end out mean the TOB retainer is facing the sky? Then Unbolt the middle part of the transmission, and basically have two parts of the tranny apart? then, take of the lid inspect, and then put it up in the sky again, and slip it back down?
