How to port a set of 93 5.0 heads?

I know you guys might be busting my balls over porting a set of E7 heads but it has to be better than my 289 heads. I am at WyoTech right now and a buddy of mine had a set of 302 heads off his 93 stang with only 58,000 on them. How hard would it be to do this. What size valves do these things have and what lift of cam can I go with. I was just thinking of doing a gasket match job on the intake and exhaust side.
The thing is how much do I take off. I was told to just smooth it up on the inside :shrug:
The next cam I want to run is going to have a 230 dur.@50 and a .512 on the lift.
Anything would help thanks.
 
Yup, open them up according to the gaskets. Also, on the exhaust side, there is an "EGR" bump that can be ground down. Also, you'll need to plug the emissions holes at the back. Plugs can be gotten from Summit for just a few dollars. #TFS-51400265

For those in the know, forgive me if my terminology is off. I only know enough to get me by with my E7 headed 91 5.0 that's getting swapped into my 66. :)
 
I did a set myself by simply enlarging the exhausts up by 1/4" on sides and 1/4" off the roof, and then blending them down into the bowls under the valves. This removed the EGR bumps as well. On the intake side, all I did was gasket match the ports, and blend the bowls. Also did the seats with a Serdi machine. Left the valves as is, they're 1.78/1.45's. I have no flow #'s but they worked better than before the work.The exhausts are the bottle neck in small block heads.
 
I ordered a set of long stem bits from Summit Racing to do the job. To blend, simply visualize whats there and how it would affect the flow of water thru the passage. Anything that creates turbulence would affect the flow path. Ditto for sharp edges.
 
Do your homework. As I understand it you do not want to port match the exhaust side. Reason being that the pressure waves can more easily travel back into the exhaust port if the "lip" is ported away. You could end up doing more harm than good. Look into it and talk to some guys that do porting for a living and not a hobby.

Ditto, you want the exhaust ports a little smaller than the header ports
