at near stock levels to around 450rwhphp, a slightly moddified 4r70w should be fine.
over 500rwhp you'll definetley want either a built 4r70w or a built C4. the C4 requires modification to fit the shifter.
as for the swap itself, if you want a 4r70w, then you can just swap with someone who has a 98-04 automatic and retune the computer. the C4 requires some fabrication.
