How to remove TFI Module

What do I need to remove the TFI module from the distributor? I would rather not take off the distributor, so I was trying to remove it with some allen wrenches but I didn't seem to have any that would fit and I can't see what kind of screws are holding the thing on. Anyone have any ideas?

It takes a special thin wall socket wrench, can't remember the size. They sell them as Ford ignition wrenchs for under $20. Just mark the distributor location and then rotate it so you can get it off and on. Make sure you clean off the old grease and use the new thermal grease that comes with the new TFI module.

I know you don't want to pull the distributer, but you could take it to like autozone and they'd prob. get it off for free, although i'm not sure. O'Reilly's did it for me for free. The tool I think is like $5 though, so i'd prob. just buy it so you have it later on.

Just as another note -- there are some different styles of the TFI tools, some of the nicer ones have a provision so you can put a ratchet in them or use them with just your fingers (like grips along the outside) and have both the thin wall socket and torx head on them -- so you can get either type with the same tool. I've seen them for around $7 at places like AutoZone.

I just ran into Napa quick and told them I needed a Ford TFI Module tool and they sold me a Napa Ignition Module Wrench for 7/32" Hex or T-20 star bits part # 775-9051. It appears to be too big. It doesn't fit whatever screw is inside there. Does anyone know the exact size? I will have to order it. This is the only one they had in stock.

I used a deepwell 7/32" socket when I changed my TFI module.

I took a large drill and removed enough plastic around the screws so I could get a regular socket to fit. Then when I had the screws out I took a hacksaw and cut a groove in the head so that a common flat blade screwdrive would fit. Problem solved.
