Door and wiring is all apart. Regulator/motor is out. Sliding and rails mechanism+gear thing are unbolted but still attached to glass and I can't figure out how to dislocate the window glass from the slides its on, cuz there's a stopper.
Also when i unbolted the gear drive part it shot back cuz its spring loaded, is there a trick to reinstall that part?

Thanks

Looks like the bolt/plastic rivet thing needs to be drilled out, not sure I can get to the other one, tho.

GT Tommy said:
I could not find any diagrams for the driver side door, however, I did find 3 diagrams for the passenger side door. These diagrams are for a 98 GT Mustang, so it should be of some help. The removal and installation instructions are posted below the diagrams. Click on the bar above each diagram to make them larger. Good luck, Tommy.

Removal:

1. Remove the door trim panel and watershield.
2. Remove the door belt line inside weatherstripping.
3. Remove the attaching screws, then the door window glass inner stabilizers.
4. Remove the door window front upstop bracket attaching screws, then remove the upstop brackets from the door assembly.
5. Remove the one rivet with a drill, then remove the door belt line outside weatherstripping from the door.
6. Lower the door window so that you can access the door window channel bracket attaching rivets.
Warning: Be careful when drilling out the rivet so that the window channel bracket and spacer holes are not enlarged. Otherwise, the window glass channel bracket retainer will be damaged.
7. Using a narrow drift punch, hammer out the center pin of each rivet attaching the door window glass to the door window channel bracket. Then, using a 1/4 inch drill bit, ream out the remainder of the rivet.
8. Tip the front of the door glass down to clear the door filler, then remove the window glass by sliding it up and out of the door assembly.
9. If equipped with power windows, disengage the window regulator wiring from the motor.
10. Remove the regulator equalizer arm bracket.
Caution: If the regulator counterbalance spring must be removed or replaced for any reason, ensure that the regulator arms are in a fixed position prior to removal, to prevent possible injury during C-spring unwinding.
Warning: Be careful when drilling out the rivets that the window channel bracket and spacer holes are not enlarged. Otherwise, the window glass channel bracket retainer will be damaged.
11. Remove the four rivets attaching the window regulator to the inner door panel, by using a narrow drift punch to hammer out the center pin of each rivet. Then use a 1/4 inch drill bit to ream out the remainder of the rivet.
12. Remove the door regulator from the access hole.

To Install:

13. Position the regulator against the inner door panel by installing it through the access hole, then install two 1/4 inch blind rivets or two 1/4 by 20 x 1/2 inch hex head bolts with two nuts and washers to secure the regulator to the inner door panel. If using nuts and bolts, tighten them to 90-122 inch lbs.
14. On models equipped with power windows, reattach the regulator wiring harness connector to the motor.
15. Position the window glass to the door window regulator, then install two 1/4 inch blind rivets or the two 1/4 inch bolts mentioned above using the same specifications.
16. Loosely install the door window glass inner stabilizers and upstops.
17. Adjust the window glass as follows:
A. Close the door.
B. Loosen the door window to the power stop bracket nuts.
C: Raise the door window to the proper height, then tighten the window stop bracket nuts to 88-124 inch lbs.
18. Install the belt line weatherstipping.
19. Cycle the door window glass to check for proper operation.
20. When the door window glass cycles properly, tighten the stabilizer retaining screws to 88-124 inch lbs.
21. Install the door watershield and trim panel.

the black round peice is a at the back of the rail is a rivet, youll need to drill it out and dislocate the rail from the tab on the glass (leaving the tab on the glass). im an autoglass tech for over 14yrs now so trust me it sucks. youll need to get replacement rivots and the really big rivot gun to install them. the older CVs went through the glass and plastic isolator. when that thing pops it scares the hell out of ya, it makes you think the glass broke. but good luck.

also the parts store will have them, napa or carquest is the best place for the rivots. a body shop will usually have the rivot gun. as they are quite expensive, maybe one will be polite enough for you to use.

It suggests replacing them with a 1/4x1/2 20 thread pitch with nut and washer. So that's what i grabbed form work, with a lock washer. Should work fine.
