The problem is the wiring is under the air bag so that has to be removed for you to plug in the new one...lolWhat I would do..... Small screw driver, pop old one out, unplug it, pop in new one and plug it in. It just can't be that hard. Horn may go off..... Do it at midnight for s and g's!
20 minutes usually. You can also step on the brake pedal to deplete the reserve back up power and speed things up.
And yes, you need to remove air bag to get to the plugs. I always use a small pick tool to hook the button and pull it out. They've always removed very easily.
I've pulled airbags and done steering column work and every manual I've read says wait 20-30 minutes.
Man I know that's right! It may be urban legend, but I've heard people have had their necks broken working on a column when a bag deploys... Not strapped in with a seatbelt, but hugging the wheel tinkering..It is worth noting the I still prefer to not have my face directly in front of said air bag in case I screwed up and blow it somehow. Just doesn't sound appealing to get pistol whipped by the air bag while attempting to remove it.
