How to run 13's in a vert?

How about.. say.. thumper e7's, 1.7 rockers, stock ho cam, tmoss lower, full exhaust, high flow filter, throttle body, underdrives? Apparently with a bcam or tfs1, this combo is good for high 12s in a coupe. I would hope that this combo (even with the stock cam) could hit 13s, but maybe im wrong?

If I went to the strip and watched your run from the stands
and
I wondered if you had an auto or stick

That ... and that ... A L O N E :Word:

Would take you very far

In your quest :D

When talking about taking a stick trans car down the 1320 ...

Driver Skill is of paramount importance ;)
and
Most look to mods rather than skill

I know I'm kinda old and all :D
but
Some things really don't change over time :nono:

Like ... the length of the strip is still 1320 feet

Like ... if you be a stick kinda guy ... you still row through 3 gears

Like ... if you hose around in the first sixty feet ... you get high et's

Now ... its true ... what I'm gonna say was many years ago
but
It is still true to this day

Me and my gear head buds used to see noobs come to the track :rlaugh:
at the first of the season :D

and

after nothing but practice :Word:
they would take more than one full second off their et

Now ... they worked hard for it :bang:
cause
They were there every weekend
and
It usually took around 1/2 to 2/3 of the season to do it ;)

Here is something that unfortunately is different about that little story
back then if you compare it to today :(

The stick trans in those days could be used in a max effort unlike the
wimpy t-5 of today. Don't let anybody kid you ... a full on power
shift will devour et ... as well as a t-5 :rlaugh:

We would see guys pick up 1/2 of a second with nothing more than
wrinkle wall slicks and gears that put you through the traps at rpms
close to redline

Hey ... I'm only trying to show there is a W H O L E lot more to drag racing
than
Just doing some mods to make more power :D

Here's my high 13 second recipe:

-edelbrock performer intake
-65mm TB
-ASP pulleys
-homemade CAI
-shorty headers
-offroad X pipe
-mufflers
-3.73's
-nitto drag radials

These mods took me from a stock time of 15.2 at 90mph to a 13.83 at 98.55mph. Adding skinnies, a shortbelt, pulling the pass. and rear seat, and running at a track that is nearer to sea level would have resulted in at least a 13.5 at 100mph or better.

NOS??? H/c/i???? are you guys kidding??? If it takes that to get into the 13s then you should spend the next year trying to learn to drive a stick. My vert ran a 14.2 with a home made CAI, full exhaust, pulleys, and 3.73s. Not to mention that was on crappy street tires. 13s would have been cake with a set of drag radials. So to answer the initial question, bolts ons gears, and DR's will run a vert into the 13s.

Nacho (95vert) pulled consistant 13.0--13.2's w/ the following:
junk yard mountaineer/explorer engine (gt40 heads/intake)
erson cam (not sure on the specs)
long tubes, o/r H
fox tb swap
a9l swap
slicks + skinnies
aode to t5 swap

I'm speaking about a stick Stang only :)

It really don't take a bunch of hp to run a 13.99 or better
but
You gotta be willing to push the car and yourself to the limit ;)

Of course ... a Vert being heavier will be more of a challenge
but
Several have done it without major motor mods like h/c/i kits

I had a little bit more modification and gear then this and ran mid 13s at around 95mph with a coupe. I think this is an accurate recipe, providing you have seat time. I had 4 years of drag racing under my belt, but only 1 with a stick, when I ran my times. I was short belted (Actually I used a diagram Paul drew up from many moons ago to do it!) as well. I power shift but I think Paul still lifts, kicks, and shoves.

Ive dropped a full second off my time from the start of the summer from now and that was with just practice at the track. Granted power is the quicker way to 13's VS trial and error. You will need some mods to get to the 13's but how much you want to spend VS just getting to drive the car better is up to you

AODE FTW!!!

Also I was saying H/C/I because I have an AODE vert and an H/C/I will pretty much grant you a 13 second pass even if you can't drive and I said nitrous on top of that if you every wanted power later on in your car's life....say to drop into the 12s or even lower depending on the shot.
