If you let off the gas and the rearend starts to howl the backlash was set incorrectly. Also listen for any kind of knocking, or noise that sounds out of place. It is important to set the gears up properly to ensure long life of the ring and pinion. Other than that I can't think of any other way to "test" the gears without taking off the diff. cover and getting smelly gear oil every where.

Its my buddies mustang but he might have to take the h-pipe off to hear anything, the MAC O/R h-pipe is f*****g loudbut awesome...we'll put the stock h-pipe back on and see
Anybody have a link to instructions if you want to change the gears yourself? I pretty much have all the tools.
You don't need to put the stock H pipe back on. If it is whining you will here it when you let off. If you can't here anything it is fine. Don't worry about it. BTW who installed them. If they are a reputable dealer or something it will be under warranty.
