I dont have enough money to do a whole intake mod yet but Ive heard from a couple of mustang owners that if you remove the air silencer that goes from the air box to the inside of the fender you can free up a tiny bit of power. I dont know if thats a good idea tho cuz that tube makes sure that the air is only coming from the outside. Yeah it picks up more air w/o it, but it also pick up warm air from inside the engine bay. So i guess my question is this....does more airflow matter if its warmer? And is taking it out a good idea? has anyone here done it?

Cut the silencer so it has a bigger opening but is still sucking out of the fender.

Take it out. Whats really restricting airflow is the fat airbox that has a tiny opening as it is. Filter should be in the fenderwall or open element stock.

Remove it and you'll gain a tiny bit of HP at the top end...however, you'll also lose a corresponding amount of torque at the low end. Decide which you like more. Either way, the gains/loses are minimal at best.

Whatever the case, you won't gain/lose much either way having it in compared to removing it. Personally, I removed it and felt a little better throttle response similiar to how the drop in K&N filter felt. So I kept it that way.

trim it.. keeps cold air going into the motor vs. hot engine air

Cold air = power
hot air = boo

The only thing that whole filter housing should be used for is...
a hat.

I would trim it if anything. Ive tried it with the silencer in, out and trimmed and didnt notice a difference either way. Maybe its just me though.
