how would I tell if dizzy was in 180 backwards

180' off and the car should not run at all... Now if you are 20-30' off it may still run but not well. I would get the car started and try to adjsut the timing by hand to see if that is your problem.

180 off cranks for a while, then shoots a blue flame with a large explosion noise out of your tailpipes..... er, so I've been told. :D
:stupid:

pull the #1 spark plug, put your finger over the hole and then crank the motor untill you feel air puff out

pull the cap off the dizzy and see where the pointer is pointing, if its near the bottom you know your 180 off, if its up near #1 your fine

oh yea dont forget to unplug your coil when doing this so the motor dosent start

A car will run 180 out. Some have even driven it on the street like that. It's all in the components inside the motor and state of tune.

To be real sure, you can pop the valve cover and check for both valves being closed when you think you're on the compression stroke.

Good luck.
