How would my upcoming 05 GT do against a 02 C5?

Just like the title says, "How would my upcoming 05 GT do against a 02 C5 vette"? My car hasn't even arrived yet and I got one of my other business owner's friends wanting to race me with his C5. I think I remember the 02 putting out 350HP, but I think the vette is pretty heavy. Could anyone give me some insight into this.

i have a video of an 05 gt vs a c5 on my computer that someone posted here a while back and the 05 gt spanked the vette...i think it depends on the driver actually

Blk05Retro,

Unless he has a blown cylinder, I, personally would tip my hat and call it a day with a smile.

At a little over 3200 pounds and packing 350HP/375TQ (manual), like the fellas said... :( Nope....Wouldn't happen.

Yes, Driver has everything to do with it, as does how the vehicle has been driven and maintained.

I was going to the races the other night and there was a kid in a Dodge SRT beside me. Now, I am astute enough to know when I will and will not win a kill. But this kid's SRT had ping and early detonation issues going on, everytime he punched it. So, in my little V-6 with a smile and a wink, I spanked him, simply because he had obviously not followed responsible modification rules and had really messed something up. LOL...

A driver in a C5 who is nervous and misshifts, as well as a C5 with break-away TQ problems could be doable, on a dry day with the wind at your back....

Good Luck.....

Jennifer

I raced a late model C5 on the street and...

... he pulled away from me, but not by much. I'd say to 80-90 mph he had me by perhaps a car length or so. I don't know what year or engine was in the Vette but it was an automatic. We just happened to find ourselves side-by-side.

All things considered I wasn't terribly disappointed. The only mods at the time were the Bassani mufflers of those listed below. I suspect with current mods as listed below it would be a dead-heat but who knows?

Thanks for the replys. I am going to break in the car first before I race him. He is probably in his late 50's, so I will probably beat his reaction time. I will let you'll know the outcome. I am not sure if he has any mod's on the engine. Who knows, by the time I break in the car, I might have a Procharger.

I had a 2001 C5 convertible (the 2001 -2004 have the same engine specfications for power.) with the 6 speed before I got my 05 GT and the C5 will murder a stock 05 GT. You will need a blower to keep up.

You mean you will need a blower if you want to make him cry. Some bolt ons and tires should do it, C5's should run low 13's high 12's. Which is not too far away from the numbers people have been getitng in the 05's.

I guess my post was lost in the crash...

To keep it simple...I got waxed. This kid in a C5 revved it as he was passing where I was pulling out. Well, I couldn't resist. So I followed him out to an old country road. He pulled along side at about 45 mph. I gave it all she had and by the end of 3rd gear he was a solid 2 car lengths ahead of me and pulling away. The guy was nice enough to stop and talk, so when I asked him if he was running stock, he laughed and said "Stock? No, pretty far from it."

That was little relief. I can't wait until Kenne Bell gets their product ready because I'm going 'Vette hunting! Or maybe I'll hold out for the Shelby.

I think you can probably give most C5s a good run, especially if they are 6-speeds and/or convertible. Provided you hit all your shifts, if they make a mistake they'll lose or be pissed that a car that costs 50% of thiers gives them that much trouble. Just don't give us Stangers a bad name by trying to punk every 55 yr old man that is driving his Vette to the golf course into a race :nono:

I was there when that race occured. That guy in the stock Vette was not the greatest driver and he had the 2.73 geared A4 with dry Eagle F1s. Now he has Nittos and is cutting 13.0s-13.1s. He raced Bryan and Bryan hole shotted his a$$ big time. Bryan is a great driver just to let you know!

thanks for the response... i take it that bryan is the mustang owner??

Depends on if the Vette owner knows how to launch from a start. I saw an unexperienced Z06 owner run a horrible 10.4 in the 1/8 mile on his first run. He just smoked the tires off the start.

It sounds like I might have a good possibility. The C5 is a vert, so I should be able to do pretty good. If I add some small mods, it could be possible. I'm going to get a CAI, tuner and pulleys ASAP.

because it's a Ragtop C5 dosn't mean anything.. the weight of the C5 coupe to the C5 ragtop is virtually identical, (within 2 lbs of each other) as well as the chassis being as stiff..

Drivers race? Hmm, I guess my NPI GT could own an Enzo if I met up with the right driver.

If by most you mean those running on bald Runcraps, with the 2.73 auto and in need of a tune, then yes. Corvettes and Mustang GTs are in two different leagues.

Yup, but I think it's 20lbs or something... basically negligable compared to how much of a pig a Mustang vert is compared to its coupe counterpart.

Except for the few voices of reason, this thread was pretty funny!

I could see an 05 GT beating a C5 auto provided they don't accelerate much over 100... I think with both cars horsepower ratings it would be a drivers race to 100... after that the added horsepower and less weight of the c5 would be too much for the GT... But stoplight to stoplight racing could realistically result in a win for the GT if the driver launched and shifted reasonably well and the vette owner was nervous or didn't know how to drive. I'm a firm believer that any boob can push on the gas and make a car go fast over 100. At that point it's just gearing, power to weight and overall horsepower. But anyone can screw up their launch or loose traction in the 60' and get owned in an 1/8th of a mile run...

Apples and Oranges????

Just to make sure we are all one the same page and comparing the same things...I was under the impression by the original question that Blk05Retro was going to try this race against the 02 C5 with a bone stock 05GT.

The straight specification answer to that question would be NOT A CHANCE BONE STOCK. Sorry.... Now, we start throwing in some modification set-ups, running optimal and "best case scenerios" then, of course, we (Mustang) could get a Vette. But, in all fairness to thread, we would have to all be talking about the same vehicle set-ups and then...Driver reaction time and skill would define the kill. :hail2:
