How would YOU get an AODE Vert into the 13s???

After recently purchasing my 3rd Mustang to use as a daily driver. I decided that my goal for it is to run a mid 13 N/A. What would you do to reach this goal?

I just finished doing a complete tuneup on it... oil/filter, pcv/screen, air filter, cap, rotor, wires, plugs @ .54, o2s, cleaned maf. The current mods are in the signature.

I've got a ported cobra intake, MAC longtubes and a MAC pro-chamber waiting to go on. I haven't decided on a cat-back yet.

Lastly, I'm taking this car to the track Saturday night if the weather holds to run it and get a baseline for what I'm starting out with - any ideas on what it will do? I'll post the results/timeslip when I get back.

New torque converter, shift kit, trans cooler, and gears(4.10 minimum). The "should" get you there. Throw on some good heads and you should easily be comfortably in that zone.

My car was never tuned, and I didn't get to run on slicks, but with all the bolt on's I only managed a 15.2 at best...

Said screw it, waited to find a deal, and snagged a used S-trim setup.
Bolted that on, along with the FMU, and a Walbro fuel pump, nothing else... and ran 13.30's @109 on DR's
This was with the stock converter.

you want to do it N/A though, so I would go with 410 gears minimum, converter, and a bolt on's like mass air, t/b, exhaust, and intake.. That should do it.
If you want 12's, you would probably have to step up and instal some decent aftermarket heads and a cam in it.

Just gears and a converter aren't gonna cut it. My friend rwith a 95 GT with 4.10s, 3000 stall converter, shift kit, full exhaust, and some other bolt-ons I forgot and his coupe only went low 14s. So I'm guessing a convertible is gonna need a little more because a coupe probably has at least 2 tenths advantage. You might have to do something with the engine to speed it up a bit. The AOD-E is a dog, that's why I did the T5 swap! That's another option. Instead of trying to play catch up you could run with the T5's with a T5.

Thanks for the replies thus far...

I'm *hoping* for a 15.5. I've been reading up on tons of other "how fast am I" threads. Most never get an actual timeslip. The ones that do have some high 15s and a few 16s!!! I'm anxious to go see what I've got. I'll let you know in a couple of days!

As much as I do love a stick, I really need an auto for daily driving here. I'd like to build it up to catch 2nd and 3rd like I did the C4 in my Mach 1.

I'm coming from a FI Fox-body 5.0 and carb background, so tell me what will I gain going to a bigger MAF w/ the Cobra intake and stock heads? Is that an upgrade that should wait for later?

At what point do I need to jump to 24lb injectors and 190? fuel pump. Makes sense to swap out the MAF then?

Anyone with facts telling if a CAI really does anything other than look pretty?

Here's the mod list and order I've got worked up in my head thus far:
Intake - Ported Cobra
Exhaust - MAC Ceramic LT, MAC pro-chamber, some sorta catback
Gears - 4.10 FRPP & Traction Lok rebuild
AODE Rebuild, upgrade, B&M Shift, Cooler and PI Stall

By the time all that is done (1yr off) if that doesn't get me mid 13s then I will most likely go ahead and rebuild the motor and add heads/cam at the same time. I want to keep it very daily drivable - I went the other route w/ my other Mustang and boy is it fun, but not in traffic.

-You won't need to upgrade to 24's until you do heads.
-CAI is pointless, get a k&n filter, and remove the silencer and WALA!
-Those mods sound good so far :nice:
-Heres a tip-look HERE! for used performance parts

And do those axle seals and bearings too if you have high mileage, they will leak sooner or later and you're better off doing it while the diff is apart anyway.

You could just put in a Kenne Bell and get it tuned and with that you should be in the 13s. And it's probably the most street friendly supercharger too, it feels like you have a big block under the hood.

A good CAI will get you a tenth and 1mph. Most of us just make our own. The best way to make one is to make it a completely straight shot from the TB to the MAF and filter with no turns or bends. I'd stay away from the mac/bbk chrome style ones since they put a bend right before the MAF which can cause air flow issues within the MAF and this could lead to some problems, especially in a 94-95 car that rely heavily on MAF voltage to determine load which is used in just about every fuel and spark table in the EEC.

Adding an edelbrock performer intake, 65mm TB, and headers dropped me from a 14.6 at 94.89mph to a 14.3 at 97.2 on street tires. Adding my own homemade CAI (straight tube) and nittos dropped me to a 13.8 at 98.55mph. Stock my 5 speed 'vert ran a 15.2 at 90mph.

stall, shiftkit, gears, and just depends on how you want to do the rest. Personally, I went the h/c/i route, if I could do it again, would save for a supercharger. (my heads are not the best, but had a heavy port and polish job done), maybe won't require the full h/c/i to get into the 13's, should get you really deep, same with the blower as well. Or you could just get some nitrous.

Thanks for all the great replies and suggestions thus far! Keep them coming...

When I'm at the track, what is the best way to launch an AODE?

Each mustang is different. Some of us just rev it up to 1500 and take off. Others, like Paul, hit it 75% for the first 10ft then slam it. Others just slam it out of the hole. You have to try it several times to see what works best for YOUR car.

I think with the long tubes, pro chamber, intake, catback, gears, converter, shift kit and drag radials you could easily see high 13's. I'm not sure about mid 13's it might take some new heads.

My car ran 14.4 @ 96 with a 2.08 60' with 3.73's nitto d/r's and all the mods in my sig minus the ported intake and Pro M MAF. So I am confident that with nothing more than a converter and a shift kit (and maybe shortie headers) I could have a high 13 sec car. Which was my NA goal.

The tecnique I used to launch was hold the brake and rev the car to about 2000-2200 rpm's then on the third yellow let off the brakeand put the peddle to the floor. It was the only way for me to get decent 60's on the stock converter. Not very nice on the brakes but it gets me moving in a hurry. Hope it helps.

Mondo.

Thanks for the launching tips guys - I hope the track isn't too crowded so that I can get in a few passes to try different things.

Gcomfx has some CRAZY times! Wow.

I'll keep ya'll posted on the track times tomorrow nite!

Went to the track tonite and ran... a 15.3!

The first run was a 15.5 with me mashing the gas from the start and the second run I revved to around 1500ish while holding the brake and eased into it at the start.

I've attached a quick scan of the timeslips, but for the lazy or hard of seeing, here's the timeslip on the 2nd run:
60: 2.300
330: 6.538
1/8: 9.967
MPH: 72.23
1000: 12.903
1/4: 15.384
MPH: 89.82

Can anyone dissect this for me and tell me what I can do better?

Thanks for all the help thus far!
