HP estimate?

Ok folks this is from total dyno experience on a 94 cobra, my first mod was my intake edel. performer it has a 70 mm opening and a matched 70 mm elboe, I ran that with a stock tb and heads (although they are cobra specific) and my gain was 21 hp and 28 tq over stock. changed to a 70 mm tb and gained 9 hp and 0 yes zero tq. I then changed the midpipe to a bassani x w/cats gained about 6 hp and 10 tq, I then went with a larger mas and picked up a marginal amount, went to a 75 mm tb and gained an additional 4 hp but lost 3 tq. Changed heads and cam and gained 48 hp and 54 tq, Still with the stock 24#, Now when I did the tune the 75mm helped trumendously with heads cam and intake. The one benefit you will get from a 75 mm tb on an otherwise stock motor even with an aftermarket intake is a little hp but you will lose some tq, and I know all of you die hard 75mm fans are not going to like it but if he only has an intake he really doesnt need that big of a tb, however you do need it for more air with future upgrades, but in all fairness your only losing a little tq and you can make that up in other areas. If I were going to do my car from stock again I WILL start with a 75mm.
 
White94, besides the peak, how did the rest of the curves change? You may have lost 3tq at the peak, but what about the rest of the curve? While I agree the 75mm isnt 'needed' now, its not hurting him as you showed. For the record, to do it right, you would have had to port the inlet on that ebrock intake as its only 70mm. SO nce you port matched it, the 75mm gains would have been better :)
 
Yes Grn92LX the 75mm gains were better when port matched, however that was after the heads and cam. The main reason the 75mm isnt the perfect choice for the stocker is velocity versus cfm, while you will get more air your stock heads cannot move the extra air fast enough, thus creating a backing effect and causing turbulent air which we all know hurts performance, but like I stated in my post I started with the better flowing gt40 setup, I can only assume that the effect with stock E7 heads would be worse, and therefore proving 75mm is too much for a car thet cannot move all that airflow, with a little port work on the stockers I have seen them flow very well though. As for the over all curve I did lose tq throughout my curve but a maxium of 3 only. My thought when I first started building my car was that of most of you on here more air more fuel more spark, and to that I say we are correct but remember It needs all three not too much of one and not enough of another.
 
Well, now that I think about it, before his car was wrecked he was planning on getting heads and a cam also. He was even talking about a 347 stroker, so I do believe that's why he went with the 75mm TB and 30# injectors. The guy knows what he is doing, he is now on his 3rd or 4th modded late-model Stang.

I just know that I have ALOT of work to do to put it into my '65.

The 1994 uses the EEC-IV, correct?
 
White- while in theory it almost sounds right, in the real world its incorrect. This 'velocity' thing you speak of, ever put an aftermarket intake on stock heads? Makes more power huh ;) An intake would have a lot bigger effect of hurting power over a stupid little TB. People (with no experience) make such a huge deal on something so dumb as a TB. Fact is, even on a stock car as you had, it didnt hurt it, took away 3tq at the peak and less under the curve and gained 4hp and thats on a stock car.

Anyway, whats your dyno numbers with that combo? Track times?

Ok heres another theory for ya, go ahead and put a track heat intake or an edel rpm or rpmII or hell even just a gt 40 setup on there and sure youll gain hp and on some even some tq however the main reason for it is the stock manifold is restrictive to begin with, and you either shorten runner length or lengthening it, so why does a better flowing intake give power? better flow to each cylinder. Now supply the best flowing intakes on a stock setup such as a box intake a victor intake or anything that flows more than the heads can handle and all you have is a car that will barely run, (this is also an experience thing) now put a power adder on this thing and it works like a dream??? Why you are now forcing the air in, unless the engine can suck in the amount or air introduced without a adder IE better heads or better cam then what are you doing with the extra air? Where is it going to go? it has to go somewhere so it backs off causing turbulence or better a tumble effect. That will not help things at all. Now all this aside if you really want the best answeres and even more in depth explanations call Ed Curtis, or Call any good cam or induction specialists and pick thier brain for a while, thats what I did and still had to back it up by doing it,(i'm extremely stubborn) and unfortunately they were right and I was wrong. Now that my combo consists of much better flowing componets I now can use the extra air flow, I have had to upgrade many other things in the process fuel, Fuel pressure, timing, spark etc. And surprising enough my stock 24# are still supplying ample fuel. Now with the turbo setup in its future I will have to go back to the drawing board and start picking more brains. Ohh and an intake makes power by distributing the air more evenly among the cylinders so more air can be introduced thus making the power you speak of.
 
I have an ed curtis cam so, i have asked his advice numerous times. He did infact recommend a 75mm tb for my car as he did for many others. He, along with lots of the guru's on hardcore50.com know what works best.

Anyway, you never answered my ?, what power are you making with your combo and any tracxk times?
 
Right he said 75mm whith his cam correct now ask him for a stock headed and cammed car. Also dyno numbers are 322 hp and 337 tq and that was with the energy cam, new numbers with Ed C cam in a couple weeks, no track numbers sorry havnt been to the track in years, I have no one to go with and I dont wanna go alone. Also keep in mind i'm in huntington beach below sea level and always around 70 degrees, the way i look at it I would be around 290 - 310 hp and 320 - 330 tq under normal conditions.
 
Ok, how much RWHP do you think I could make with AFR 165 (or 185) heads, TFS stage 1 cam and the rest of my current setup. I'm keeping the TB and injectors so I will have what it takes when it comes to be stroker time.
