HP help!

I have a 04 Gt 5-spd, it has an x pipe, bassani exhaust, knn cold air, and 373's. Im not too familar with the 4.6 2v. Im looking to make around 450hp and enjoy the car. Im looking for any advice knowledge or help with what parts i should do next and in what order to achieve this level. Also some have told me to replace the knn cai and get a different one?
Thanks

If you want 450 crankshaft HP you're going to need artificial respiration. That basically means a supercharger running ~10 psi. A turbo setup will probably deliver that sort of HP at 8 psi or so. You won't get there with normal aspiration and bolt-ons and I wouldn't try it with nitrous.

If you're serious about this and decide to go forced-induction then I'd hold off on buying any more intake-side bolt-ons as most probably won't work with a blower.

BOOST! Many many, choices with the little ole mustang. Vortech, procharger, paxton, kenne bell, tork tech eaton swap blower, turbo...... give us more info? Are you looking to make much more power out of it down the road, or are you content with what you will have? Do you want big block style instant torque feel or a gradual increase in torque power?

450 at the crank or at the tire ? 450 at the tire wont live long without doing a forged shortblock before adding a blower is the easiest way to get that kind of power out of it , you can probably get close to 450 at the crank which will be around 400 and change at the tire with the stock engine but its still a time bomb at that level , if you want it to last without building an engine keep it around 370-390 rwhp

Put a set of trick flow heads on the 2v motor and see how happy you are with the power after you tune the motor. If that doesn't do it you can put a blower on it and you will make a ton of power.

You don't need enormous horse-power to have extremely quick car. Sneaky and others on this website have proved that.

I like the Accufab, it is a much nicer piece of the factory and flows very nice. The SCT Livewire is fine as long as your local dyno guy tunes with SCT. I have not seen the high gains with underdrives on the mod motor set-ups, headers and exhaust would be a better place to start.

My first question is : BUDGET, How much are you willing to spend to obtain that goal? Blowers, Turbos and supporting mods add up very quick.

If I can help let me know ;)

As far as budget im in the marine corps with 2 kids so it depends right now about 2k for now......that will change in a couple months. I currently have bassani exhaust xpipe, knn CAI which im switching to a JLT CAI, and im not sure if it has headers im getting it checked out tomorrow to find out, as of right now on my list i have underdrive pulleys, JLT CAI, Accufab 70mm throttle body with the plenum combo, SCT Livewire and im looking for a good brand clutch and what type. I dont know too much about mustangs so if underdrive pulleys are a waste just let me know, also is there a better programmer you reccomend? Also as far as the plenum and trhrottle body is that something somewhat simple to install i have done cai and small things on diesels but other than that i have no mechanical experience! Thanks for all the help. should i go 70mm or 75mm throttle body?

Im guessing you still want in the 400s as your goal. If that is the case, get either a 75mm or 78mm TB and Plenum. If you were staying N/A, then 70mm is plenty, if you are going with a PA, then bigger is better. With that said, Accufab is probably the best...but if you want a one piece kit.....go with the BBK 78mm all-in-one TB and Plenum. YOU CAN INSTALL IT YOURSELF. Really, it is a 15 minute job, and 5 of that was looking for my bottle opener.

Remove the UDs from the list. They are worth just a little HP and the boosted goals you are wanting....they will have to come right back off is you go the s/c route (maybe not, it just depends on which route you really want to go with).

You need to find a tuner there on the island before you decide on the SCT Livewire. Checkout some local Mustang Clubs, talk to people....there are tuners there. Find out what they tune with. I have 2 SCT chips and a hand held sitting in my garage. My current tuner uses Diablo...something about tuneable parameters and such.

Is your clutch going out, or you just want a new one? I will always recommend getting a new flywheel, or getting your old one resurfaced when switching clutches. Since your power goals are pretty mild....I would say get a King Cobra or a Centerforce dual friction clutch. Both are pretty cheap and work well.

mine is starting to go out, yes in the future i plan on getting either a supercharger or turbo, just wasnt sure if the uds are worth it. I have heard alot of good things about accufab but if the bbk is better i will go with whatever you guys suggest. Will 75mm be too much for the mild mods i have? I have found some dyno places online and will be calling them today to get some info on the tuner situation. And yes my ultimate goal is around 400-475hp and thats about a year or two away right now i just want to make decent power with a couple bolt ons and anything else until i get out of the marines and get back to ky where i actually know people who tune and do great work. Also the guy who sold me the car said that it has 373 gears are they pretty good or do you recommend 410's. With this being said are there any specific kinds of gear oil and trans oil you recommend. Thanks again

Ok so no luck no one on this island tunes, as far as that with the sct live wire coming with free tunes would it be worth the 500? Also i got a quote to get the clutch put in and flywheel resurface for right at 700,, seems high to me but i dont know that much, also he said its better to resurface than buy a new fly wheel bc mustangs are externally balanced and it could throw something off he said, again im still in the very early learning stages with this car and wouldnt know if i was getting hustled or not. He also said i should upgrade the intake manifold?

Find another shop: 4.6L modular engines are internally balanced. If he doesn't know this, what else doesn't he know?
