I was just wanting a few opinions. Hurst short throw shifter, or Steeda's Tri Ax?

I want to get a shifter based on reliabilty... not price... I just wanted to know because the steeda is about 90 bucks more than the hurst.

I've heard some bad things about the tri-ax. Don't know much about Hurst. Have you looked at the MGW shifter? I would recommend the MGW since you can adjust the throw and position to your liking. Also it is a very well made piece. Which ever one you chose it will make a huge difference. Makes Driving the car a lot of fun.

Love my Hurst, probably would go with MGW if I had the chance. Mine was dealer installed.

MGW or nothing. I had a Triax and it was terrible trying to hit third gear at 490 rwhp. I installed the MGW and I haven't missed a shift since. I took a Hurst out of my bud's '05 and replaced it with an MGW and he claims it's a night and day difference. I never drove his car with the Hurst in it, but he hated it. Hard to find 3rd and noisy as hell.

Another good mod to do while you're installing your MGW is the CHE K Member Brace with Torque Limiters. It makes the drivetrain much more solid during WOT.

The article that I am talking about takes a bunch of different cars that are owned by the writers. Everything from stock to supercharged. I think that between the major publications (5.0, MMFF, and Modified Mustangs) we can rely on their info. The internet is a great source of info, but could be sided. The writers in these major mags are very respected among the mustang crowd. Joe DaSailva (modified mustangs and fast fords), Ken Miele (muscle mustangs and fast fords), and KJ Jones (5.0) are all respectable members of the mustang community. I take their opinions seriously. The publishers of these magazines take some time and consideration when they hire a technical writer.

So, why did they prefer the Hurst over the MGW? Do you realize that vendors and mfg pay magazines?

I guess I am stupid. I listen to the reviews of reputable sources. Did you hear that there were aliens in Roswell NM. Me either, the man must have posted that also.

I hope that whatever you bought makes you happy.

I love seeing all of the facts.

I have a Hurst and so far is way better then stock. The throws are short, firm and positive. You can always find the right gear but it occasionally is difficult to hit 3rd at WOT. Many factors influence the last bit of part mostly drivetrain wobble which can be fixed in a couple of ways. I also liked the price. I got it on Ebay for 120 bucks and I bought the Steeda bushings for it for a couple extra bucks. For the price I cannot complain even if it is noisy from time to time. Again I'm too lazy to tighten up the shaky bits and fortify them with some teflon tape or something similar.

That said I hear a lot of good things about the MGW and I have not driven a car with one of those. It is adjustable and has a different shift feel (read smooth vs notchy of the Hurst). But you gotta pay for these features as it is significantly more expensive then the Hurst.

If you want to fix that rattle, pick up some Dynamat. Take the E-Brake handle apart and cut a piece of Dynamat in the shape of a triangle to go on the sides of the shifter. I'd recommend getting the CHE K-Member Brace with Torque Limiters if you want to fix the 3rd gear shifting problem. My MGW did it, too. It's just the transmission twisting under the torque.
