My HVAC blower motor would run only on the high setting, and it was blowing weakly on the high setting. I had been putting off buying a new blower motor for probably the last year because it was still working, somewhat.

I read on this site about a "blower motor resistor" which is a crappy little piece that plugs into the blower motor. It's job is to prevent the heater motor from baking the ventilation system and causing a fire.

Anyway, I called the dealership and it was only a $15 part. It was simple to replace and now my A/C is running like a champ on all settings.

I just wanted to post in case anyone else has the same problem.

I always thought the blower motor resistor was what gave you fan speeds. With no resistance, the motor gets full power. But for each lesser fan setting, a resistor knocks out some of the 12 volt signal to the motor (like a stepped rheostat) so the motor spins at lower speeds. When the resistor pack goes south, only high speed works since the resistors are not used on high.

Anyhow, Glad to hear that took care of ya!

Wow this is exactly whats wrong with my car. The blower only works on high speed. Thanks for the post, now i know whats wrong with it and will order the part. I think i shorted it out in the car wash, i left the heat on, and suds came out the floor vent. I shut it off real quick, then saw a little smoke. d'uh.

Yep, now that you mention it, when I took mine out it looked like it was rusted...hmmm...prolly the moisture like you said.

Easy and cheap fix, that is for sure.
