I used a hypertech on my GT.
When I use the hypertune option the car appears stronger but...
The engine sounds noisier when I accelerate.

We only have 91 octane here in Phoenix
But I dont hear pinging (I don't think).

What could this be?

may be detonation, I would back off the timing and see what it sounds like or find some place to get 93 . I wouldn't drive it long like that .

In CA, we only get 91 too, unless you wanna go way out of the way.

I just use the stock program with 87. If I made say 5 extra HP with the hypertech, it wouldn't be worth the extra coin in gas, IMO.

If I use the stock option then there is no HP gain.
You only get HP gain if you choose the hypertune option.
Other than that, just gear ratio, rev & speed limiter, and tire size.
right?

For the Hypertech, yes, that is my understanding, Hypertune or stock tune. It would probably be a good idea to get it on a dyno and see a) how much power the HyperTune is really giving you, and b) check out your A/F.

IMO, my car runs so well on 87 with the factory tune, I wouldn't get an off the shelf chip (or tune) requiring me to run premium gas unless the gains are very significant.

Just my $.02
