I am under 25 and have no garage. COLLECTOR INSURANCE?

I don't have insurance on the Stang anymore because I went with Geico and they won't cover my 65.

One insurance company wants me to be 25, another wants me to have a Garage.

Could I have my parents help me out even though I own the car and they live in Fl, I live in Phoenix?

Who should I go through?

i have had state farm since day one. no problems insuring any car i have ever had....but i had liability only until i got newer cars that had loans. are you getting full coverage? hagerty is one classic car insurance specialist. try a google or something like that....

Some of the restrictions on the collector insurance is your only allowed a certain number of miles per year,age limit,must be garaged with pics of the garage.My brother had it on his 55 oval bug,paid about 250 a year for full coverage and he specified what its worth.

It is BS. just because I am 24 doesnt mean I cant obtain a classic. Really a pain in my ass.

I dont drive my 65 because of my delema.

I went from State Farm (275 per mo. vs 98 per mo. for my Mazda.)

geico

i have geico and they insured my 73, liability only, if i want collision, then they have the same garage, milage, rules, etc, and it is a seperate department

Hagerty might work. They have restrictions but they never asked for the miles on my car. They also didn't specifiy how many miles I could drive or where I could drive it. They mostly don't want you using it as a daily driver. Your parents might be able to insure the car and add you as a driver, although hagerty should let you insure the car on your own. As long as you have another car that's insured, hagerty will insure the mustang.

It's not BS if your paying the claims. 24 year old males with old preformance cars tend to have a high claim ratio compared to the rest of the world.

You would be right if daddy gave me my car, but I paid for every bit of it myself while in the military. I am quite responsible with it, but I am going to get screwed if it gets stolen or ran into in the parking lot in my apartment.

I am not the only person in America my age with a collector car for crying out loud.

No, Hagerty won't cover me either. I can't put my policy with the parents because they are in Florida (I am in Phoenix) and NO drivers on the policy can be under 25 if I could have them on my policy.

No, your not the only person, but it is a private business, and they don't want to take risks wuth a demographic that historically has high claims. Especially with your car sitting in an open parking lot. The fear you have of theft is exactly why they aren't that eager to be your sugar daddy. It's that policy that keeps the insurance incredibly cheap for those of us over 25. I am sure you won't complain when Hagerty only charges youy $100 bucks a year next year, will you?

Just because you own a classic car doesn't mean classic car insurance companies are obligated to insure you. Just get regular car insurance for the next year like the rest of the driving world and get your collector car insurance next year.

My car is worth $2500 in a wreck. That is hardly worth $100 bucks a month in regular insurance. That is why I don't drive it. Yes they SHOULD cover me if I own a type of car that they cover. Legally I am screwed if something happens to my car just because I am a little too young. I am not saying it should be the same rate as someone older, maybe $500 a year or something like that.

Well, you need liability, it's the law. Get it appraised and an insurance company will insure it for the appraised rate.

Everybody here has been under 25, we have all dealt with it, and many before the luxury of collector car insurance was even available.

You are sounding like you feel like you are a victim.

I totally agree that there should be a rate at which an insurance company would insure your car. Insurance companies have tons of money and tools at their disposal to rate the risk involved in insuring you and to come up with the appropriate rate. Surely some company would be willing to take your money. The sticking point may be, however, whether you're willing to pay what a company that is willing to insure you and your car would require. That's up to you.

I'm not Mr. Insurance, but your acting like it's your right to get it. It's not. They owe you nothing.

The reason they can offer affordable insurance to classic owners is because they measure their risks. That means not insuring people under 25 and not insuring "classics" that are in an unsafe environment.
