i have it up their but it will not go in all the way need 2 more inches ???

what can you do with the clutch aliment tool ... i couldn't turn it in any direction ????

i have spent a total of 30 hours on the Stang .... i'm getting to the point where i just want to use my air compressor for everything !:bang:

I am doing this all by my self with a 3 ton jack to support the trans ...

Please Let Fill me in on the install tricks ???

You're not supposed to be able to turn the alignment tool in any direction. What is important is that with the pressure plate bolted to the flywheel, the alignment tool should go in and out of the pilot bearing with easy, this tells you everythings lined up nice.

Most of the time, you won't be able to install the tranny all the way in, but there should be no more than 1" gap between the trans and bell before you start bolting it up. Usually, if you can get all the bolts in and started, you can slowly tighten them up by alternating between them little by little and the trans will engage the bell.

You might want to take the driveshaft out of the tranny and use duct tape and plastic to seal it off, this way you can manuever the trans easier. Angle is important when you put the trans in to get it to engage. If you can get help it will be alot easier.

DO NOT USE THE BOLTS TO PULL THE TRANS FORWARD....

assuming that the trans is not hitting on the car anywhere and it is at the proper angle then get the trans "started" then have someone push the clutch to disengage the pressure plate from the flywheel, that should allow the trans to align and move forward.

either way. If it's only 1/2 " out, then using the bolts to move it forward won't hurt it in the least. All it will do is move the weakest link in order to align, which in this case would be spinning the engine ever so slightly. I've done every one of my cars this way and have had no problems.

When i reinstalled my T-5 i tried it with the bell on first and it is way harder! YOu have to get it perfectly in there. When i did my TKO i attatched the bell to the tranny and put them in together. That way way easier to alight everything. THe hardest part is getting the input shaft cleanly through the throwout bearing.

You think this way is easier? It seems like it would be much harder to me. I've been putting them in the other way so long that I just works good for me. I can't stand doing clutch jobs on cars with integrated bellhousings.:nonono:

Just install the clutch cable as normal and have a helper depress the clutch and the transmission will slide into the pilot bearing. This has worked for me a many of times

Well it is harder to get to the top two bell housing bolts. But with the bell attached and a friend helping its not hard to guide it into place and get the first four bolts started. I had a hell of a time getting my T-5 centered perfectly so that the input shaft and bearing retainer would slide through the throwout bearing.

i have to say i have had more problems installing the tranny with the bell attched to the tranny then with the bell bolted to the engine.. and as for installing it with the shifter on.. i woudl check and see if the shifter is hitting on the body or is hung up on something.. with the shifter out.. it is very easy to slide it in and align it you don't need to depress the clutch.. make sure the throwout bearing is lined up.. then lift the tranny in and slide it in make sure the angle of the tranny is parrel to the bell.. and it should go in easy..

another point to make is the fact that having the shifter off will make it easier to install, and, it will be alot easier to get the fluid into the tranny after it's installed. You just pour it in with the top plug out until it starts to come out. Alot easier than those pumps they sell.

I install two studs onto the bellhousing were the tranny mounts. With the Bellhousing installed to the block, I slide the tranny over the studs and inch it forward, often having to turn the yoke to get the splines to line up. Never had to tighten the bolts to pull it in, but I do tighten the bolts as I push the tranny in place to keep it from backing out. The studs get replaced with the bolts when I'm ready to tighten it down.

Like others have said, don't use the bolts. Once you get the transmission about 1/4" - 3/8" away from being flush, sometimes pushing the clutch pedal down will make the trans just pop right in. Other times it makes the clutch disc become out of alignment with the pilot bearing and you have to yank the trans again and realign the disc. Try it w/o using the clutch first, and if you still cant get it in, use the pedal. If that doesn't work, remove the trans and realign the disc.

One thing to take note of when doing this is make sure the faces of the trans and bell housing are parallel as you are sliding it in. If you do this it should go in like butter. But it's hard to keep it perfect laying on your back w/ the car on jack stands.
