I do not understand Backspacing/Offset

I have 98 spindles on my 88GT. Currently I have 17x9's on the front and they stick out too much. The 98 Spindles add 8mm off offset to the car. I want to place some 17x8 on the front and 17x9 in the rear in hopes to tuck in the front wheels a little more inside the wheel wells. Below are the wheels that I am considering. I want to make sure that the fronts will sit inside the wheel wells correctly and that the rears fit nice. Based on the information below, do these wheels accomplish the look I am going for??

FRONTS:
WHEEL, BULLITT, BLACK, 5 LUG, 17X8,
Wheel Size: 17x8 Bolt Pattern: 5x4.5 Wheel Offset: +29.5mm Wheel Backspacing: 5.72 ...

REARS:
WHEEL, BULLITT, BLACK, 5 LUG, 17X9
Wheel Size: 17x9 Bolt Pattern: 5x4.5 Wheel Offset: +24mm Wheel Backspacing: 5.95 ...
