A guy I work with is saying that the 2005 Mustang has 2 optional engine packages. First of all, let me state, I didn't believe him, never heard of any of this, and did a little research and could find any info on what he was saying. He said that the new Mustang has a factory option to get one of those new 5.0L Cammer engines with like 420hp, and an option for a 7.5L (460 big block), with something like 600hp...both of these dealer installed. I'm pretty sure this is untrue , but can someone confirm this for me so I don't look like a dumb@ss if I call him out on it. Oh yeah, as for prices: 7.5L option was only like $7500 installed, and the 5.0L was something like $4000 installed.

Wow! $7500 for 600hp. I'de say the aftermarket would suffer a beating is this were true. As big of an Mustang enthusiast as I am...have never heard of this. The 4.6 300hp mod motor is the only option we will have until a possible 5.0 cammer in the 07' Cobra??? I dunno about that either.

However, in this month's Hot Rod magazine the staff at Hot Rod and some other companies have designed a modern Chevelle with a 454 badge on the rear bumper. I doubt that will ever see production, but surely dangerous if it did. As far as the Mustang...where is your friend getting his info on a 7.5L factory option? It would be nice to find that out and post it here.

He's got his facts confused. I'm willing to bet that he's talking about the Ford Racing catalog with the crate motors you can buy. Yes, it also includes a 460cid motor that makes 600hp for about $7000.

A) He's mis-informed, and unknowingly perpetuating it.

B) He's full of ****, and flat out lying.

Pick one.

I really would not be surprised to see a 5.4 in the car after measuring the extra room in the engine compartment, im sure ford did that for a reason besides making headers easier to install

I work for a MAJOR foundry, and we havent cast any 460 parts in 6 years. The 5.0 'cammer' motor is a test bed only at this point and is not available for dealer install. The guy's full of fecal material.

LOL this reminds me of the story my brother told me yesterday. he pulled up to the liquor store in his recently purchased Mach 1. Some guyy comes up and told him he should have waited. My brother says why the GT doesnt have more power. Then the guy proceeds to tell him he's got an 05 cobra with a s/c 4.6 making 500 hp. it's the new body style with the 04 cobra motor (somehow magically making 100 extra horses) but he just doesnt drive it very often because its so exclusive.

You can find reference to those engines on these links:

http://www.fordracingparts.com/announcements/news01.asp
http://www.fordracingparts.com/crateengine/main.asp

The prices are in line, except that the 5.0 Cammer engine retails for 15k. I'd hardly call them "optional engine packages" for the 2005 Mustang...
