Well I'm stepping outside the pushrod world for awhile. Heres the beaut that I picked up Friday.

1998 Cobra
Black on black
46k miles
Bone stock with exception of a k&n
Let the dohc modding begin.

I had some interior but they came out blurry so I'll take some later. It was starting look like it was gonna rain. Tell me what you think.

Wow, that engine is a beaut!!! Congrats on your purchase! What can be modded on these motors BTW? How much power can you get out of them n/a?

I'm gonna keep the mods simple. I already have 4.10's, gonna do full bassani exhaust, and will be putting a Procharger D1SC on it. Should sit nice around 400-450rwhp for the street. Could push it more but those pistons and rods don't like anything more than 500rwhp. The Teksid aluminum block and forged cobra crank are good for past 1000hp. So once I swap out slugs and rods, the boost will be turned up. If I don't switch to an F1A.

NA i see 302 based motors making way more so id keep that of no concern. but those motors love boost a heck of alot more then our pushrod motors and it can take it too

My friends 96 cobra with a vortech running 390whp had like 6 or 7 broken pistons after a lil while of being boosted. He had a really safe tune with conservative timming and everything too. that motor is amazing tho kuz even with the broken pistons it still idled and ran really good for just cruisen. just it made funny noises every now and then when it was revved up quickly and also it felt like it was down on power. i believe it was all the ringlands that broke. But ya if u ever get it supercharged youll be amazed at how fast the 96-98 cobras are with centrifugals are. they pull insanely hard up top and 03-04 cobras that make way more power and tq should easily be no problem.(to put it in perspective my friends setup on his 96 was makin 411whp with 4.10 gearing like yours walked away from 03's with 450-470whp

Was he running the aftercooler. I will be running our 3 stage fmic. Its a world of difference in charge temps with an intercooler to a non-intercooler set up. That sucks that he popped at only 390. But I've seen em pushed far past that.

negative. that is a common misconception. it seems that way because High powered NA 302s are soooo common. If a DOHC is built right, itll own hard core. Having worked on a million of them, I can definently testify to it.

Dark- if you plan on running an F1 in the future, that car is going to be barely streetable. We are talking cogdrive and hooooooorrible gas mileage... although, i know you are fully aware of that.

I think it would be neat to have one of those with the internals beefed though. I bet it would scareeeeam! Probably too much $$ though compared to 5.0.

Indeed it is. My buddy had a '96 with a built motor. It definitely wasn't pushed near what the motor could handle, but still put down 440rwhp with an S-trim.

BTW, LOVE that black cobra. The potential with that car with looks and power makes me jealous.

what's with the trunk? shouldn't it have a cobra spoiler w/ built in 3rd brake light, then no brake light on the deck lid? just curious....

looks really nice. sounds like you got it all mapped out. lower it and get some clear side markers(like the ones i have for sale )
