negative. that is a common misconception. it seems that way because High powered NA 302s are soooo common. If a DOHC is built right, itll own hard core. Having worked on a million of them, I can definently testify to it.

Dark- if you plan on running an F1 in the future, that car is going to be barely streetable. We are talking cogdrive and hooooooorrible gas mileage... although, i know you are fully aware of that.

ive only heard of a couple cases of built 4.6 blocks and they were not impressive if i remember correctly specially for all the money spent. Any 400hp+ 4.6 NA motor is going to cost you atleast 10k plus. And the modular 5.0Cammer motor is a perfect example. http://www.seanhylandmotorsport.com/mustang-crate-engines.shtml

--for the price of those engines i could buy another stang...building a 4.6for NA is not plausible imo which is why im purely in favor a forced induction when it comes to those 4v's. Ya darkhorse once he rebuilt the motor a lil while after he got a vortech aftercooler. and running a smaller pulley to make up for the pressure drop witht he cooler but hasn't been retunned since car runs and drives just as good as any stock car but is insanely fast once u start revvin it out. he switched to 3.73s since it doesn't see much track and and would just spin all off 1st and 2nd gear

Nice clean example. I almost bought a 98 before I got my 94. They just wanted too much for it (18k) two years ago....

sweet ride, i was gonna ask you if you got it yet.

looks like you need some shocks/struts and cc plates to go with the springs you have to put on there---i might know a guy that has some used.

btw---does it have the early or late 98 fuel system?

To those that don't seem impressed by modular builds, you need to research more about them. I wasn't into them at all until I started seeing guys at work with stock block, crank, heads, cam, intake pushing past 600rwhp. If you plan on going with boost, the 4v is the perfect foundation for it. The heads were designed too large from Ford which is why the suffere N/A and redesigned them in 99. But for boost they are incredible. Follow my progress and I'll try to press you with the lack of mods and unlack of power.

Ben, Strange 10 ways are already sitting on my floor, but I still need some CC plates. You got some MM's by chance. I need to check my build date. But I know a majority of them had the 98 only system so thatd be my guess. Just a fuel pump.

the mm's are going on my car along with the coil-overs and tubular control arms. the used ones i will have are QA1's. i also have a set of 03 cobra arms.

i've often "heard" that some are return style and some are not--nothing first hand though.

looks like fun, and screw the D1, go straight for the F1--i wanna be able to hear that blower 2 miles away

too big? usually when we say heads are too big means the heads flow too much for the application. but this is not the case with the B heads which is found on the 96-98 cobras. Because the later head revisions actually flow better and the combustion chambers are bigger too. maybe u wish to say the runners r too big which then would make sense of those years having those valves which stay closed in the intake at low rpm to help downlow

I'm sorry I didn't specify for you. The runner size is what I meant. Which is why I said its better for forced induction. The valves you are speaking of at the IMRC's. Intake manifold runner control. The head is a two port design. Meaning there are two intake ports leading into each cylinder. One is round, the other is square. The twin port design is boost hungry but suffered n/a and Ford knew that which is why they incorporated the IMRC's. At 3250rpms these valves open up to allow both runner tracks to flow, but stay closed below that to keep velocity up on the low end of things.

I know most aren't into modular motors and thats fine by me. But I'm still a 94-95 guy at heart (hell the suffix on my cell phone is 9495) but I'm just ready to try something else and to make the power I want with my motor, it would have had to be totally revamped. Bennet Racing Dart shortblock, TFS Highport heads, Bennet cam, Victor intake, full fuel system.

I found it would be easier and much more reliable to start with a 4v motor. I hope with my build up that I'll keep updating on here that you guys will see that modulars aren't as gay as you think.

Ben. I'm gonna go ahead and order up some MM's. They're just too kick ass. The slam session will consist of H&R supersports, Strange 10ways on all four corners and MM c/c plates. The strut/shocks are for a fox since they are an 1" short design which will allow for efficient travel with the drop of the H&R's. The guy at Strange says its a common set up for 94+ guys with that much of a drop.

if it turns out like everything else that a procharger employee with a dohc 4.6 has, then i expect around 650-750rwhp when the smoke clears.

Don't forget about on stock block, crank, ported stock heads, stock cams, and modded intake on pump gas.

I'm waiting on the caster camber plates. I was gonna do all the suspension at the house, but do you wanna just do it on the lift. Thatd be sweet as hell if we could.

that may be pushin it a little, due to the time constraints. we would only have about 2 hours max on either day, and it takes me about 3 or so to do cc plates(4 bolt i'm guessin), springs, shocks/struts, then another 30-45min for the align.

just lemme know when you get the cc plates and i'll see what i can do.

Yeah man. Its not rush either. It doesn't have to be done this week. Whatever works for you if its possible to get it done on a lift. That would save me a ton of headaches. I'll let you know when everything gets here.
