Again, my passanger window will not roll down. This has happend several times in the past and I've replaced both window motors along with the passanger switch. WTF is the problem? It is intermittent and probably only happens once out of every 50 times I roll down the window- the driver side goes up and down but the passanger side stays. Any idea as to what is causing this very annoying and embarassing problem. And is it exspensive to switch to manual windows?

I hear ya!

I have mine at the dealer at this very moment. The passenger side window will go down, but not return to the upright position. The motor works when you inverse the polarity, so something is up with the electronics.

Please post your fix if/when you have one.

subscribing....same problem:

drivers side will go down, but not return up (first time its happened since i got the car, have rolled it down ~50 times)
the previous owner warned me about this :(

Anyone else? I dont want to take it to a shop, I ain't got much money and could fix it myself unless it involved runing new wires. I hate electricity, I do. I'm switching back to entire gas and karosene and steam power.

bretamo and super302 sound like they have switch or harness issues. Drew sounds more serious of an electrical problem.

Drew: Have you checked the side to side play the window has, the bushings wear out and makes it harder for the motor to operate therefore causing it to burn out. I replaced the slide bushings and my power windows continue to go out, replace the motor, just to have them burn out again. I just took out the motors and push up, pull down the windows.

I bought a master switch harness off ebay, with the nice connector plugs and all. When I went to install, I found the wires went straight from the master switch through the door jam and behind the dash. Plug-n-play is what I thought, and I find that there is no way to remove the master switch without clipping a bunch of wires all of similar color.

I'm praying I don't have to pay a lot at the dealer.

I should start a stangnet office pool on who can get closest to my bill without going over.

More than likely the problem will be found in the accordian cover for the wires going between the door and the body. 9 times out of 10 a wire breaks inside that cover causing one or both windows to operate erratically. Mine will work again if I simply open the door. Replace that harness (or repair it) and you should be good for a long time.

Indeed, the breaks usually occour in the accordian boot on the driver's side....Either pop the boot off and look, or start probing the wires...remember, the driver's side is the "master" side, if the wires break to it, the pass side switch won't even operate....

my drivers side window has problems too. It will stop 1/2 sometimes, not go down/up at all, or work just fine. But when it doesnt work, a few beatings on the door does the trick. So im assuming its a loose connection somewhere.

Also, someone said bout the drivers side being the main side. My passenger side lock switch doesnt work at all, only the driver side switch. The actuator went out on the drivers side but works fine on the passenger side. Any ideas here?

Also, what is this about bushings? Are they the things that keep to window from rattling side to side when down? Becaise mine rattles if i have it 1/2 way down when i go over bumps or close the door.

Thanks for the help,
Alex

Good Advice-Buy a NEW motor...

dude-
I had a lincoln that was possessed with multiple window motor prob's........ i seriosuly must of went through 11 motor's. and they were all rebuilt, trade in your old one and get a new one bull**** from the auto parts store.
Reminder-The motor will be a sgood as the rebuilder, So guess-what-If you can afford a brand new window motor, do yourself the biggest favor and save your headahces for something thats meaningful... And buy a new part and not remanufactured. because-When i took that advice, i never had a prob again with any of my windows.... Only my .02 cents...

Ant :flag: :nice:

SR86 said the driver side is the "master" side and he is correct. The pass. side gets it's connection power through the driver side switches. The wires in the accordian boot tend to break from flexing every time the door is opened. This may or may not be your lock actuator problem, but is probably your window problem.

grr im kind of having the same problems, i went to the storage 2 days ago took out my car with my buddy, lowered the windows, when we put her back the passegnger side window didnt go up.. not sure if it will go down cause its already down but i know it wont go up

i have a like problem the windows in my 93 only work when the door is open the hinges are shot in my door is this the problem or is it somewhere else? how do i fix it

Either get the replacement harness from someone or pull back the accordian boot and try to pull apart each wire from the ends. The one that 'stretches' is the broken one. Fix it with a solderless connector.
