Sounds like the Gold Chainers showed up and stole the car guys thunder. Kinda funny that you can pull up in a reasonably nice fox and no one will give you the time of day, but if a guy pulls up in a new one that still has the window sticker from where they bought it that morning the lemmings will mess themselves over it. Or better yet has every stick on body part thats in whatever parts catalog he got in the mail, don't get me started with that guy.
For what its worth, the first (and probably last) cruse night I did with the Saleen it got passing looks from some of the mustang guys but there was a newer Roush on the other side of the lot so mine didnt get a second look. Fine by me cause I would have been pestered all night by people wanting to know if its a real one or just a 'vert with a body kit.

Now before I'm burned in effigy, I did not say that there weren't REAL car guys in that age group (I've met a few). What I WILL say though, is that the largest majority of folks who THINK they are car guys from that age group are REALLY just....

Too true, too true. I tell my wife all the time that there are car guys and there are boys with toys. Unfortunately a lot of dudes who think they're in the first category are really in the latter.

That IS sad. I wouldn't give a second glance at a Roush from any year. The only one that the LEAST bit interesting is the stage 3 and it's got nothing to do with the gaudy body kits/parts that they've slapped onto it. They're about as subtle as a jack hammer.

I'll have to admit, the lime green Rousch that sat next to me wasn't over the top gawdy like the first gen versions were. It was the color that had the ants all over the candy. The owner was so in love w/ it he kept pointing out "things he just now noticed" about his new bank note.

My car has run the course here in the local circuit cruise ins. The few people that haven't seen it still trickle by and stop to talk,..but the majority are still the ones that don't know that there was anything done to the body, and ask what year mach 1 it is. I have waay more fun at the all Ford shows, (like MW) where the attendees are at least ford fans,...and know that the car they are looking at DID NOT come that way from the factory.
But even at Mustang week,...the S197 cars out numbered the next generation by 3-1,...and our poor lowly fox bodies by twice that.
I just cant give the owner of that car any credit,......
