You will prob want to swap the entire column..not the wheel.

Be aware that the 87-89 column wiring was different from the 90 up column. You will have to either move all the electrical
switches and wiring from the 90 column to the 89 column or move the wires around. The multifunction switch is the
primary problem. There are several wires that don't go to the correct places when you use a 87-89 switch in place of a 90 switch.

You hate it to? It is not hard to change the column, Ive done that several times, but I have never had to fiddle with the wiring. Thats my big concern. I dont want to change it and then have an electrician hook up the wires. Expennnnnnnsive. Maybe someone will be kind enough to give us a hand.
Oh, I am going to keep my cruise either way. Grant makes a kit that comes with new buttons and it mounts to most of their wheels. I just have to figure out if I am going to change the column out or not. Do you know if it will look funny, I mean how does the column trim match up on the older column to the newer Speedo bezel?
You'll want to use the 87-89 column trim. It will match up fine. Here's a 90-93 dash with an 87-89 tilt column. I have an SN95 wheel on there now

Let me get this straight. You have an 88 with a tilt colnmn. So you changed the dash to accomodate the new trim and the SN-95 wheel Or did you just change the cluster housing? Which would be much easier. By the way, are you still able to reach the pedals with that thicker wheel on. How does it feel?
The car is an '88, but the dash is 90-93. I kept the original tilt column and column trim. I changed the dash because i wanted OEM black. No other reason. The SN95 wheel swap came later after seeing it done on a few cars and liking how it looked.
The gauge cluster is the original '88 cluster, but i had a newer one in and it mounts up the same, so you shouldn't have to change your gauges or gauge surround at all. It fits nicely and you would never know it's not OEM.
The Sn95 wheel is about 1.5" closer to you. Diameter-wise it's 1/2" bigger so not a big deal there. I can reach the pedals fine as i have long legs. Unsure how it will feel once i swap to 5-spd and begin shifting. It can be wired to make the horn and cruise work as well.
I'm still working on it as you can see since the airbag is not in place. I'm just mounting up the contact wheel on the backside of the SN95 wheel so the horn/cruise contacts mate up correctly.

Ahhhhh, I gottcha now. Is the wheel expensive? I have a 90 vert 5.0 that I paid$1000 for and its fairly ugly so it will take awhile.
